I went to check out the area today. GVT and city crews were busy rebuilding the S. George St. crossing. The passing siding that started between S. George St. and S. Madison has been shortened, and now starts west of S. Madison at the newly installed turnout, with the now unused portion removed, the ...
I've been driving along the Chicago line for the past three years daily between Hoffmans and Utica. In this time railroad has essentially been rebuilt from the roadbed up. Brand new signal system, all new turnouts at every crossover and siding (even the out of service Kellog Industrial track in Amst...
The Fonda controlled siding is getting welded rail installed this week. There's rail laid out on a number of curves west of Fonda that I assume will be installed too.
It's in the Flickr group.
Milepost 3 is in a front yard on Hayes Rd in East Greenbush,NY. https://www.flickr.com/gp/53385923@N02/uD1088
This is somewhat off topic, as it's probably CSX related, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what's going on in Colonie along Railroad Ave / Fuller Rd? Is the yard being rebuilt? There is a string of CSX gondolas and a crane there, as well as strings of used jointed rail. Is the industrial track/sidi...
It's possible that the track is being restored for car storage. It's a cheap way to add track space quickly.
The new CP 141 south of the station is beginning to take shape, the crossovers in the distance are new, as is the turnout on the left.
There are now four strings of rail laid along the ROW on West Albany Hill. There are five frogs and other assorted turnout parts laid out at Carman Junction in Schenectady (Hamburg St & Chrisler), between the main and branch.
A couple more, these taken at 2nd Ave, south of the station. Sorry for the poor quality cell pics. It would appear that the bridge is being returned to service.
I stopped by the Renssaeler station today to check on the progress, lots of work underway.
Strange, looking further at the Google images, the culverts just east of McLean road are washed out. Yet at the West Road crossing a 1/4 mile east, in street view the track looks as if it has been recently rebuilt, and there are newish crossing signals.
I was looking at Cortland in Google maps today, which is a recent aerial view, and I see the tracks to Gutchess Lumber look to be in bad shape. In street view there is a washout at the McLean Road crossing. An earlier post mentioned that this track was to rebuilt (2006). What happened? When did Gutc...
I posted some photos of the branch I took this past Sunday, here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/53385923@ ... 268258571/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
