This is exactly the reason why I left the New Haven for greener pastures. No bridges or b.s. :-D I now resume my retirement from RR.net.

We unlock the bridge from the control center, then the bridge tender on site would open the bridge. Since I have been there, tha bridge has open maybe 4 or 5 times.

It could of been that the RTC was routing your train around track circuit problems, signal problems, wire problems, or even a disabled train. When we do our jobs, we can't always follow a script. We need to be flexible and sometimes, creative, to get our trains over the road on time. There are times...

Believe it or not, we have a method to our madness. This was an example of controlled chaos... :-D

A simpler idea is an emergency phone that is connected directly to the RTC desk to lessen the amount of time it takes getting in touch with the RTC by dialing 911. The only thing I don't like about that plan is if you get some kids playing a prank, sooner or later someone will get killed. It's like...

Yes, I was aware of the track car situation. I'm wondering about stuff like the Sperry Rail Car, rail grinder trains, and geometry car trains. Though the vehicles you mentioned are self-propelled, I still have to apply track car rules when they travel. If they are working, then I would take the tra...

Another dispatcher question: do rail grinders, geometry cars and the like shunt, so that they show a track circuit occupied; or do you have to "block behind" them? Some track cars shunt and some don't. That is why you always block up the track that they are either traveling or working on....

I now know Waterbury is manual block, but since there are no sidings, there are no switches. Not true, sarge. There is a siding just south of the Waterbury station known as the Lower Waterbury siding. It has been used for the inspection train when it travels up that way to get i the clear for the r...

Tracks 102 to 114 are used for passenger service. Tracks 116-west are out of service and no longer a part of the lower level as it is being used for the LIRR EAS project. Those tracks haven't been used in over a year. You do have a work train that does come down into the out of service area to bring...

Also, 136 track is a storage track, though you can run from 102 through 136 up track A to track B as an alternate route. It is very useful to have during the rush.

Hey Sully, I loved what you did for the Port Jervis line. it was really good. I also liked the song you used so much, I downloaded it for my ipod and I listen to it when I ride the train. Merry Christmas and enjoy your holiday.

The reason why there are a lot of senior personnel at MNR still is because once 2013 comes (30yr anniversery) there is going to be a massive amount of retirements happening. Still quite a lot of people from Conrail and Penn Central whom work for MNR. While your statement is true for the most part, ...
