A few years ago there was a sink hole that almost swallowed a house in Attica. Soil conditions, especially this time of year are very soft. I have trouble with keeping a crush stone surface on my driveway. The stone just sinks into mud. This area is very wet. Thankfully this derailment wasn't worse ...

"I imagine CSX is already rerouting some of NS' trains. Makes me wonder if NS would consider routing some of the traffic from the west via Meadville to Hornell on WNYP?" Edit..... Posted too late! Oh well, fun to type...... I wouldn't be surprised if they get one track open tomorrow. Is th...

Charlie, if you look in the comments of that Video News Service article on Facebook, there's a close-up picture of ties with a crushed Jeep down in a hole. Looking at that hole, I don't think it was made by an autorack or locomotive. Looks like a sink hole to me. Just my guess though.....

Checked in on this project this morning. They're stacking big timbers under the old bridge in the roadway. I'm wondering if they're going to set the old bridge on these and cut the approaches to pour new abutments, or use the timbers as temporary "fill" for a shoe fly track. I'm curious as...

Regarding all the construction at the former Gulf Rd crossing, I believe that's where that derailment that spilled Tri Chlor into the ground water in the early 70's was. I think that is an EPA hazardous area or whatever they call it. I've read about that wreck, but never saw any pictures of it. Thre...

The Ford is a 1972 Custom. Bottom of the line for full size Fords. LTD being the top of the line. A very common police car back then. I am a classic Ford owner and have quite alot of information on these full size Fords. I know of one just like this one that's for sale nearby. Unfortunately, I have ...

I often wondered if NS could ever build a connection off the Nickel Plate to connect with that line. Not sure if there is room for it. It would get them around CP Draw. Just railfan dreaming here, I guess.....

[quote="BR&P} Less than 10 years earlier, NYC/PC was also handling cars of hogs for Tobin Packing on Maple Ave. They arrived in double-deck CB&Q 55 foot stock cars, often 4 or 5 at a time. These cars were just as "hot" and many times more "fragrant" as the cows. I be...

Slightly off topic......since Conrail got 3 lines into Caledonia, the Peanut, the Lehigh Valley and the Erie, what industries were left for them to serve after the Conrail takeover? I know the Peanut was out of service with rumors saying a bridge between Batavia and Leroy was bad. The Lehigh was rem...

My Uncle Bill Hunt had 16mm movies of riding that NYC line into Attica. He worked for the NYC, PC and Conrail. Before he passed, he gave me a VHS copy of those movies. It was some very interesting viewing. They were taken just before the line was removed in the 30's. I'd like to someday get them tra...

No problem. I don't mean to question your pictures like that. I've always been fascinated with that area but never had a chance to see it when it was active. I'm grateful someone like yourself has pictures and can share them. Like I said, you were there, I wasn't. Thanks again!

Great pictures! Looking at Google maps, there's a deck truss over a stream between the LA&L and the Genesee River. Could that second picture be on that, given the fact there's corn stubble in both that pic and the third one of the large trestle. It almost appears that you just pivoted and got th...
