Re: Steam tourist train in Cooperstown's "Woodland Museum"?

A couple of thoughts regarding previous posts. Unless there was an attempt to build a ROW along the northwest shore of Otsego Lake that I'm not aware of, I don't think the Woodlands Museum was on any sort of previous RR ROW. The station in Cooperstown was in a stub ended yard. The C&CV actually ...

I'm still searching for the details on the Binghamton show, everything I find on the internet is for prior years.

Can't seem to confirm the Binghamton show anywhere on the web. Anyone have a link to the flyer?

Despite the information published in the Daily Star article, both GG1s are still in Cooperstown Jct. Some prep work and inspection
was done last year and the unit destined for the Henry Ford Museum was moved toward the remaining mainline switch. And there
it sits. Wonder if CP refused interchange?

Re: Union Carbide Niagara Falls plant - Weird boxcar (LOX)

If that car carries liquid oxygen, it appears as if the car is empty at the time of this shot. Liquid oxygen is a cryogenic and as such, is extremely cold. I would expect to see traces of vapor in this clear shot if the tank was holding liquid oxygen. Having worked for Linde Homecare filling and tr...

Treating plants used to burn them for the steam required to treat the ties with creosote in the first place. Ties that were too far gone to reuse were often just dumped along the ROW. Now some tie suppliers actually broker the collection and disposal or recycling of the used ties. I would assume it ...

Isn't this a historic procedure? Blue Coal, Sterling [silver], Gold Nugget and Reading Red Dot being some of the more common brands. The coal loads were sprayed with dust reduction as the primary reason. Someone realized that colored loads became a distinctive, marketable advertizement as it rolled ...

When was the Belden Tunnel rebuilt and was it by Guilford? Yes, a Guilford era project. Last half of 1985 according to Scott Hartley author of Guilford Five Years of Change. (Did they actually use money from there own pocket?) Hum, doubtful. If I remember correctly, NYS DOT was involved in the proj...

No. The rails are long gone. In fact, I think they were gone a few years before the magazine cover came out.

I did find a slide of 420 running long hood first at Lanesboro PA on Sept. 25 1985. Paint is relatively fresh at that point.

Wow. Almost 18 years? Guess the Alco recollection was a bust.

I seem to remember a very similar photo on the front cover of one of the railfan magazines around that same time. Vaguely remember it as Alco C420 [D&H 401] freshly repainted and renumbered 420 positioned a little closer to the bridge. Even Guilford looked good in fresh paint but there just wasn...

There is or was a bed and breakfast in the Oakville area that was named The Lost Trolley. I believe it was named in honor of an electric car lost or stranded in the swampy area near Fly Creek. I will try to see if I can find any reference to it.

Hanford Mills Museum in East Meredith NY. To pick up the rest of the roadbed you need to look on the other side of County Rte. 10. Do not remember the reason the roadbed was disrupted in that area.

Next a few shots while parked at Gas Ave. There is NO good photo locations of the entire train available from this location. The right of way is too overgrown. The Daily Star reporter managed a great shot walking down the side of the train, but police and RR people were preventing all others from ge...
