Re: HO model railroad builders

The cost cited by one of the "professional" builders for his concept was frankly as nonsensical as it was exorbitant. I thought after that using Mianne bench work might help with the rebuild, but the order was canceled after waiting 3 weeks for a response as the owner was busy traveling. I...

HO model railroad builders

I am looking for a reliable company in the New York area that constructs model railroads in private homes. We have a 300 Sq. foot space to fill. Seems most of the outfits on Google search are in the Midwest or West.
Would appreciate responses or specific info. I want to rebuild an existing layout.

The state of Walthers

I remember the time (the era) when a modeler could find just about anything under the sun from Walthers. Now their monthly "Flyer" is progressively free of content for the serious model train lover. This is beyond the fact that they have not evolved much beyond the 1950's in locos, rolling...

LED's

Here's a modeling note. Evans Designs 1.8 mm red leds can be fitted in Walthers Proto Amfleets as marker lights with some adjustments to the body and "B" end; a diode for direction illumination and a resister - perhaps 100 ohms - as they are very bright. They handle up to 19 volts.

LED strips for walthers passenger cars

I have discovered a less expensive way of lighting the interiors of HO passenger cars. Instead of the costly Walthers units, LED strips cut to size, (available on Amazon), much less than Micromarks, Bridge rectifiers from Ngineering, and 1K resistors. If you have decent soldering skills, a very nice...

Walthers amfleet coach defects

Wondering what the experience has been with spontaneous breakage of the trucks on these cars. I bought six of them and had the metal side frames break off on two different cars within two months of purchase. Walthers graciously replaced them, but one wonders, at 90 bucks a pop, what's happening here...

Walthers Metroliners

I recently acquired a set of the new Metroliners, DC version...4 coaches and one each of the parlor and snack bar cars. Pricey, but nicely done. Pretty to watch in a night scene on the layout. The plating in certain lighting looks streaked, as with the new amfleets. I may try some of the dulling fin...
