Re: Oil train derailment & fire in W.V. 02-16-2015

I'm curious to know what the outdoor temperatures were the evening before and morning prior to this derailment. Could possibly been caused by cracked rail or a pull apart due to the extreme cold. I'm speculating.

Had NJT spotted key equipment and sets (including the dual modes) west of the Hackensack spans up on the BCL (Curtiss Wright and Passaic Jct) and the ML (Clifton and Ridgewood stations) it would have been the "common sense" and "no-nonsense" course of action. Doing what they did ...

There would be fewer issues and faster recovery time if NJT spotted key equipment (including the dual modes) west of the Hackensack spans and up on the BCL (Curtiss Wright and Passaic Jct) and the ML (Clifton and Ridgewood stations). I mentioned this in the other thread.

I stand by my post that the sets and rolling stock should have been stored west of the Hackensack River spans (on high grounds on the diesel lines).
The key decision makers gambled at the expense of the New Jersey taxpayers for the benefit of those in their trade. I stand by my posting.

The first question asked by the original poster pertained to speed of the locomotive. In normal revenue service on the Hoboken Division, I doubt these units ever exceeded 60/65 MPH. When I was aboard the 1987 Bergen Shore Express, it seemed we moved the fastest on the Corridor but maybe not more tha...

Are all 13 locos (4100-4112) presently active and also "in good health" ? Still see a couple here and there on Main/Bergen lines. Is this where they still seem to "predominate"? Seems the new locos (cigar-like ones) have bumped some of them off the Pascack Valley Line, IMO.

Today at Plauderville it looked like #1271 was late when it should have been already up at Radburn and #59 blew around it (moving at a good clip) using track #2. I rarely see "power-passing" being performed on the BCL. Can anyone confirm if this was indeed what I saw today at about 6:35pm.

Looks like the process of "Great-notchin' " this station stop is well under-way as the new Plauderville emerges as the prominent station in the city. NJ Transit eliminated two evening and three morning rush-hour trains from Garfield. And almost all of these were "key" trains by a...

Thanks for the nice comments. Here is one more from the same day. Excellent shot with the Arrow's lined-up in the background, with the green block off to the right forefront. Looks like my original 4111 on its home territory, were it and the rest of the fleet should ideally be today (in an ideal wo...

When the new station goes live it shall be interesting to see how the function of the crossings is 'tweeked' at each end. Also of course the effect on traffic patterns at both ends as well.

I mean to add that those photos are centered well, with respect to the cat pole and the PATH signal on the right side. Nice pix. Very nice, amazing 20 something years later the F40's remain relatively the same. Yes, for the most part very true. I guess the big question is do they sound the same? Are...

If ARC tunnel had been built would ARC (as some had said) "render Secaucus obsolete"? Some of the spin the Bergen Record put on the project was in other words "all Manhattan bound commuters (24/7, present/future) are destined for 33rd/34st." The biggest ARC supporters consist of ...
