That second one is defiantly NYC Dudley, based on the shaping of the top-side shoulder. Can't tell/know if that's for 127lbs or 80 or some such. If it was the main probably 127; but I'm not sure if the 127 had similar hardware; and I know the 80lb looks like that (If the hole on the shoulder is off-...

The afternoon runs you were seeing were likely the salt trains to/from the mine. That business has "dried" up for the time being thanks to mother nature - my understanding is its a few cars now and then; maybe a train a week. There is also occasional; "rare" moves to Dansville, a...

There is a sign stating its property of CSX hanging on the gate facing Canal st. If you look at the Monroe County GIS mapper (http://mappingmonroe.monroecounty.gov/mpv/) - it shows that parcel includes the adjacent segment of the R&S. It also looks like the right-of-way for the approach to the c...

Interesting. A number of years ago (4-5) I recall seeing a tank car spotted out in Wolcott. Since that time, they had been awarded monies from the state to rehab from Newark through the Wye @ Sodus, and on to Ontario (If I recall) for the bio-diesel. Two summers ago, I remember following the line up...

Just a bit east of the East River Rd crossing; on the south side of the tracks, there are a number of smallish concrete footings - which to me reasonably looks like they could be the footings for a water tower. http://maps.google.com/?ll=43.097403,-77.676333&spn=0.001565,0.002411&t=h&z=1...

Perhaps where the LV connected to NYC just south of the Village of Cayuga; or on the other side of the Cayuga Lake? - where the shared the causeway across.

The lifting was only so-so; probably enough to get it off the tracks ... there are clear ruts in the ground where the caboose was dragged; err rolled? Unfortunately, to the chagrin of many an uninformed human, the "steering wheel" wasn't steering. Maybe the panel wasn't there, or the crane...

Hmm... lets see the boards on the caboose say "Property of Village of Manchester" followed by "CSX, Rochester, Syracuse Finger Lakes" Or at least something to that effect. I love the panel; pristine 115lbs + rail; with plates, new spikes and anchors ... and brand new 7x9 ties! Bu...

For a time anyways, after the sale of the ONCT, poles were unloaded in Avon on the LAL. Not sure if thats still the case; likely it got moved to Brook Ave.

As for Genesee Reserve in Henrietta, I do believe the get lumber by rail - or at least in the past few years did.
