Re: Unified Ticketing for NYC area agencies

Unless they want to put validators at the stations on the LI and MNR, you're only going to be able to use the card as a payment option. They have studied this to death in the last 25 years and the cost to do something at the stations is too high and the pushback from the UTU is too much. The end res...

I think there was also talk at the time of running a train from Albany through to Montauk. That was some politician's dream at the time and it didn't go any further than the test runs. They were also looking for additional diesel cars at the time which they did lease for a bit from MARC if my memory...

We called the Ticket Office Machines, TOMs, at the LIRR. See the photo.

Worked with MNR when we were designing and testing them.

I understand that Cubic is going to be late with the new generation of TVMS and TOMS by a few years.

These TVMs have been in use since 2001 have been able to dispense pre-encoded MetroCards since then. on both railroads.

Some people called them Ticket Selling Machine, others Ticket Vending Machine.

When I worked as an extra agent, I remember them being stored at Mastic. On Fridays, the extra operators would pick them up in the early afternoon and take them out to the temporary block locations.

I know WH was one location, but I forget the rest now. This was back in the middle 70s.

Here are the names that I know and pretty much complete and in order after Throop (I hired on right after Throop and never left the department). Dates are approximate: Joe Sobina - 71 to 74 Herbie Hansen - 74 to 78 John Battistini - 78 to 81 Tom Waring - 81 to 93? Jim Castle - 93 to 99 Bill Sellerbe...

I believe in the 70's Doris was still a ticket clerk, maybe Cold Spring Harbor. Her husband Tom was in Manpower for years.

Quick question, didn't Walter Hilsenbeck also play the organ in Penn for a few years. I know he had an organ at his home too.

It occurs to me after reading these and jogging my memory that the cause of Plandome burning down, Jan.1?, forget the year, was the kids setting fire to the Christmas decorations in the waiting room. I was there that day with another manager and when everything was done, B&B just pushed the tick...

In the 70's and maybe the early 80's, the Agent or Clerk was allowed to spend $5 or $10 for Christmas decorations. The money was taken from the Agent's petty cash fund. (Each agency had a fund for making keys, postage, etc.) Some of the Agents/Clerks were very creative in what they did and some boug...

I remember a diesel or two coming into the station in the 70's. Everyone is right, you needed a gas mask while they were there.

Some of the tracks in EX yard had slides that came down from upstairs.
