Just wanted to post that my wife and I rode the afternoon train today, and -once again- we enjoyed ourselves greatly. We are impressed by how professional, enthusiastic, and friendly this all-volunteer group is. The sizable crowd of patrons on board seemed to enjoy the leisurely ride. Great narratio...

Imerys has a terminal in S. Portland, from which a large number of kaolin tank cars are loaded for Maine paper mills.

When we rode the CZ to California in March, they washed the windows in Denver during our stop there.

Very encouraging report!

I also just read that the dome car will return this fall. I was under the impression this had been uncertain until now. Strangely, the Amtrak site says this is the first time for the Great Dome to Maine. Is this a different dome car from the past visits?

Would this radical scheduling idea work?

On the post about food downgrades, Tom N. provided a link to a fascinating Railway Age editorial in which there were some radical ideas posted at the end concerning Amtrak schedule reliability on host railroads. https://www.railwayage.com/passenger/intercity/want-airline-food-take-amtrak/" oncl...

I miss the information and perspective of GOKEEFE. I haven't seen him post in a while. Wonder if he is still with Trainriders Northeast?

I really hope the cafe car is not removed. Since my wife and I discovered business class we use that exclusively now. It's so much more comfortable, roomy, and quiet, especially since we travel the entire route Brunswick-Boston. From business class I can observe goings-on in the adjacent cafe. Like ...

I have always thought that we should get rid of flashers and or gates and put up regular traffic lights. As you say, people are more likely to stop at stop lights than RR crossing lights. I have too. People seems to think that red flashing lights are "optional" or "I can go if I thin...

We're on 688 waiting to depart Brunswick, on time, for Boston. It's so good to have this travel option, especially with the winter weather. Driving would be lousy, Maine Turnpike is down to 45. It was slippery just driving over from Lisbon on 196. Starting January 8, the parking lot at Brunswick Sta...

I think PS uses quite a lot of plastic pellets for making bottles. If I am not mistaken, they used to transload them to trucks via St. Lawrence & Atlantic in Auburn, but now it is done via Pan Am in Rigby Yard. When in the vicinity of Rigby I see a pretty steady stream of pneumatic tank trailers...
