Re: 10/24 systems outage

Amazing that this made the news outlets, the system crashed, trains were told to wait, the safest action was taken and it is perceived as a bad thing? At least that's how it reads, btw there was no mention of the Amtrak signal problems the following day that delayed some trains up to 60 minutes!!! ...

A more useful, if no less expensive option would be extending the Broad Street line to the Navy Yard and then through a tunnel to a new terminal around exit 23 of 295 in South Jersey. About here, basically: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.8615239,-75.1481203,16.25z" onclick="window.open(th...

One of the many things I like about the V's are the acceleration, it feels a bit faster than the IV's but I don't like the doors especially during the winter where they can't get some of the doors opened at all I've found this the best part. It seems easier to make up time when we're running late. ...

Thanks, that is useful. I'll try to track down that pamphlet, too.

I remember reading a few years back about a local historian writing a book about the Philadelphia, Newtown & New York (a/k/a the Newtown branch). Does anyone know the book? Internet searches have turned up nothing. Perhaps I dreamed it?

Train 6598 is made of SVs about half the time.

I think a Broad Street Subway extension to the Navy Yard and National Park was also in the plan, or at least being talked about at the same time. This would probably be the most useful mass transit extension the region could get, since the Delaware River bridges are the biggest bottleneck in the De...

Strafford is my favorite, with its historic building and nice surroundings, but I could be biased because I used to live there. Gwynedd Valley is my favorite of the small stations, also as much for the pleasant location as the structure itself. Downtown, 30th St is nice in the Amtrak part, but ordin...

I agree, it would be nice, but I don't think there's much demand for Pottsville service, while the Berks to Philly traffic is evident on 422 every day at rush hour.

Just as an FYI to the forum, the upper half of the New Hope Branch was sold in 1966 by the Reading Company. That transaction had nothing to do with SEPTA.
Ah, well. It would be nice to take the train there, anyway.

All of the lines cut under SEPTA's tenure should be restored from the city out: 1) Fox Chase-Newtown, first and foremost 2) Elwyn-West Chester 3) Cynwyd-Ivy Ridge 4) Thorndale-Atglen Then: 5) Norristown-Pottstown 6) Lansdale-Quakertown Finally: 7) Pottstown-Reading-Pottsville 8) Quakertown-Bethlehe...

Not sure of the old name (Derstines?) but the new name that is being proposed is called "Pennridge". More info about the "Bucks-Mont Corridor" project: http://www.bucksmontcorridor.com/ Derstines was the nearest station on the old line but, from what I gathered at the meeting, t...

3--Not if the guys at the shops can do anything about it--they've been keeping those cars rolling nearly 50 years. That's a fantastic stat. Every time someone mentions it, I marvel at the work those guys do. I was thinking the same thing the other day when I was riding on a SLII. It's really impres...

The gate at Gwynedd Valley isn't working. Don't think I've seen that before.
