Re: M9 and M9A Procurement & Acceptance

MA90 - This is my reply about your 10 comments - PRO first: 1-Electronic screens for advertisements are good-provided that they work and do not become a target for vandals (all those interior security cameras may well be a deterrent to any mischievous activity...) 2-Two front LED signs is really not...

Re: Redrawing the Amtrak Map

Actually there never was a really good route from Philadelphia to Scranton; the best you could do was RDG-LV to Wilkes-Barre, then the Laurel Line, with not very frequent service. The only alternate I can think of was PRR to Manunka Chunk via Trenton, then DL&W, with a change at Stroudsburg, and th...

Re: SEPTA Rebuilding for the Future Updates

The good news: the Wawa Extension pushes forward, and they expect to start construction on the station before the end of the year. The bad news: it’s no longer called Wawa. It’s now “Middletown.” Oh well. http://septa.org/rebuilding/pdf/elwyn-wawa-open-house-08-2019.pdf Probably because "Wawa" is a...

Re: LIRR Video with Question

Steve (and Everyone:) Another noticeable difference about the then-almost new DM/DE30 locomotives is their original front end without the horns that would be added during the 2000s. The original horns were in a roof indentation which was about in the middle of the locomotive and because of this thei...

Re: LIRR Video with Question

The Oyster Bay-bound train had an E-20 on each end. I don't think I ever saw that before. TBW: What you saw was an Oyster Bay "Pull-Pull" train...These trains ran with two GP38-2 (E20) locomotives along with 2900 series cars during weekday peak hours during the transition years of 1998 to 2000 whil...

Re: LIRR Video with Question

Engine on each end allows crew to switch facing point sidings as well as trailing point sidings on the first pass by. Shortlines do it all the time! Lumber yard gets his car today, instead of tomorrow after an overnight round trip to Montauk or Greenport (at least in the old days!)... CB: I will se...

W&N: Ashland, VA at times has had boarding problems because riders could not figure out which track a given train was arriving on until the train got close to the station...The VR webcams have even shown near misses with trains because of passengers running across tracks in front of either a passing...

Re: SEPTA NPT card will be "SEPTA Key"?

Philly Inquirer attack Key for enabling fare evasion... https://www.inquirer.com/news/septa-key-card-fare-scam-20190903.html Not really sure if this is because of the Key. You could do the same thing with legacy passes. Key makes it harder because you have to wait several minutes before you can tap...

NS/VIA (and Everyone): Five years ago a topic was posted about the D&H version of the Adirondack in the D&H Forum for a 40 years ago tribute to the Albany-Montreal section of the train which ran with Alco PA passenger units as part of the assigned locomotives along with dome cars and other D&H passe...

*=years ago we had a book on how to speak like a Pittsburgher. "Sahside," "Dahntahn," "Gyant Iggle," "worsh yer hands," "yinz," "slippy," "go and redd up," etc. I have a friend in nearby Greensburg that can confirm the book is still accurate. W&N and RW: Yes-there is at least one book written about...

MA90: You should also use the letter designations when describing platforms for the same reasons that I describe above because again weekday trains use both platforms in either direction during peak hours. For that matter all LIRR stations with more than one physical platform are specified by letter...

Will the MARC cars be repainted or will they keep their blue and orange? MCG: The MARC cars are stainless steel with blue and orange decal sheet-type striping - there is not one speck of paint on any of these cars. Eastbound platform - the west end new platform has been built, a temporary platform has also been built and stairs to it is being built. It also looks like they are starting to build the new overpass foundation. Ray Ray: You have to be more specific when you post about what station(s) that you are ...
