I have been stationed at Langley AFB now for 7 years and live in Newport News so, I'm pretty sure that makes me a "local". I do not have any numbers but will provide this bit of information. The distance between the Amtrak station in the southern end of Newport News is only about 30 miles ...

I just got mine in the mail. Pretty nice locomotive. Not an exact match to the real thing, but thats what the Brass market is for. For $210, it's not very hard to overlook the minor differences though.

This is pretty interesting.

Check out this web site called The Rail Channel. http://therailchannel.com/

On the right side look about 2/3 of the way down the page and you'll find a 23 minute video called "steam in the snow"

Steam engine 7470 filmed in Jan 2010

Enjoy....

With all this talk about the possibility of the Sisters going to Pan Am, Does everyone know that Intermountain RR (Model Railroad company) has agreed to make and sell models of the BOTH sisters in both HO and N scale. They will be available in standard DC version without sound as well as DCC with so...

CCSR is looking at yet another Diesel for use in the Notch? Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that the same reason that they purchased the two GE U Boats? Please...don't beat me up for asking or saying this, but lets see... They have the "sisters" plus the occasional use of the F-...

Ok....Good point. I was just trying to "think outside the box" and thought my suggestion was a pretty simple solution. I work for the USAF on Fighter Jets and we use "rotary sweepers" to FOD sweep the flight line and taxi-ways to prevent our jets from sucking up any foreign objec...

I wonder how difficult it would be to mount some kind of rotary sweeper brush (kinda like a street sweeper but smaller) on the front of one of their MOW pick up trucks. They could "run the line" a few minutes ahead of the Notch train and "sweep" the rails of anything that would c...

Ok....I've got to ask even if it seems like an "idiot" question.

When Thomas shows up for a railfan weekend or other such event, is thomas an actual working locomotive or is there always a real working locomotive at the rear of the train pushing and pulling the consist?

I went home on leave last month (Manchester NH) for a few days. Haven't been home in years. While back in Manchester, I took in a Fishercats game. Was amazed to see that they built an impressive stadium right there in what use to be the Manchester Rail Yard. Was also amazed to see the number of base...

There is an article in todays Manchester Union Leader talking about the same story. It seems that Guilford - Pan Am - or whatever they call themselves today is crying. So...If Pan Am wants to take back this line in New Hampshire and has also basically pushed NEGS out of Concord...What is next? Reall...

Does anyone know for sure when this High and Wide load will be headed down through the notch and then into North Conway? I am stationed in VA and will be headed home to NH Monday for 2 weeks. I recently saw pictures of a 5 unit lash up of P&W engines bringing a unit coal train up to and from the PSNH coal plant in Bow, NH. I'm wondering, isn't this usually handled by NS engines? Why the P&W? Don't get me wrong.....It's nice to see the P&W in Southern New Hampshire. It's just ...
