Could be either a D-51 or D-53. Doesn't appear to be a PRR design
Hi all. It's been a very long time since I've been on the forum. Just to clarify some things with the Sunrise logo, I found an HO scale decal while in a trio to NY many years ago. Going by what Mr. Ziel wrote in his books, I sort of played around with color combinations to get what I felt would be t...
Oh how I miss those girls.
The NYA's fleet have been re geared to 62:15 and the LIRR's remaining MPs are still the higher speed gear ratio. My feelings about the GP40 being a poor choice for LIRR is based on the long idling times, additional fuel consumption (you would be surprised how much difference between the E engine and...
Recently re-engined GFRR 500 sports new paint as well.
Could it be a artifact of the Jamaica grade crossing elimination? Isn't that the area that was mined for the fill or leading to it?
GP-40s would have been horrible in LIRR commuter service.
Not just Long Island Railroad: When I was working for Amtrak at the Metorlink operation, I was riding home and the conductor asked me for my ticket. I misplaced it so he (a co-worker who knew me) wrote me a $300 citation. Later that same trip the HEP went down. I was the only MofE employee on the tr...
J.J was a true gentleman and always a wealth of knowledge. I wish I learned 1/8th of what he forgot. While I don't think I personally have met him ( I may very well have back in the 70's) my correspondences with him via email and the web have always been an educational experience for me. Maybe I can...
Yes.
For what it's worth, Here is one of my three ex B&M GP40s.
i was the one who inspected the the engine for purchase. Trust me, I am anal retentive when it comes to these things. I had three to choose from and one I didn't even look at, the other I spent about a minute looking at before rejecting that one too. This one had some minor issues but nothing except...
Just for the record, my GP-20 has a 645E and D-22 MG. Now, how many knew that EMD marketed a "645C", that being an "E" block manufactured with 567 packs? BTW, just slamming in 645 packs into a 567 does not change the engine rating or classification.
Been a long time since I posted. Just saying "hello" to all and let you know I am alive and well down here in south west Georgia. I am "Manager of Locomotive Maintenance" for the Georgia & Florida Railway and it is a very challenging position for me. Here are a few pictures f...
