Re: 1913 Subway Plan Adapted for Modern Philly

As the creator of this map, I will try to answer some of the questions posed above. Would this system have any express service on the BSS 1 Line? As the map shows, the 1 train is an all times local, although I guess a peak direction express could be operated hitting all stops above Olney, then expre...

Re: MSHL Woodland Shops

To bad there's not an interlocking between the MFL and the trolleys down in the tunnel.

Although now that I think about it, the M4s would not be able to negotiate the curves under Penn.

Re: Interesting consists

Don't know how unusual this is, but yesterday while waiting for an inbound local at Downington... I saw a westbound freight train. It passed by at around 2:15 pm on Tuesday the 2nd. It was led by two NS locos. The first cars were loaded gondolas... with what I couldn't tell. The rest of the train wa...

Timz.... thanks for that, those were some cool pictures to look at, and yes... there was one of 52nd Street. Albeit, it was before the time period, I was looking for. So again, thank you for posting those.

52nd Street Station in West Philly

Does anyone have, either pictures in a book, or in your own private collection... of the 52nd Street Station? I want to compare them to what I have in my memory. I only saw the station maybe 5 times as youngster. Each time I saw it though, through a car window while driving down Lancaster Ave... it ...

Re: Why Can't SEPTA's Subway System Look Like This?

Research the 1912 Taylor Transit Master Plan. Your system, while looking really pretty... is somewhat redundant and unnecessary, especially within city limits. I'm not trying to tout my own horn, but I too did extensive research into the subject... not for a thesis, but because I was bored. I also m...

Re: Amtrak service to Suburban Station

How about building some kind of connection between the NEC and the RDG mainline. That way Acela trains can then stop at all three CC stations.

Re: Once-Proposed Subway/Elevated Lines In Philly

And don't forget the Somerton El... made it to planning phase but then abandoned. Where would this be? Above what street(s) would the Somerton El have been built and where would it have started/ended??? Why was it abandoned??? I don't recall ever reading about or hearing about this one. Choo, you s...

Re: Once-Proposed Subway/Elevated Lines In Philly

Love the history ;) quick question comes to mind. Do you think if any of these subways was built would they still be in service today ? With all the underfunding that happened and political unfairness ? Sammy, I'm glad you asked that, since I'm infatuated with what Philly might have been... had rap...

I hope the B-IV's last another thirty years... they actually look like real subway cars... they definitely would look right at home rolling down New Utrecht Ave or Brooklyn's Broadway.

Re: Once-Proposed Subway/Elevated Lines In Philly

Yes, I have seen the map Tim is talking about in that book. It was called the Mack combine. It was an elevated system that was to be financed behind the scenes by August Belmont and fronted by a gentleman with the last name of Mack... I forget his first name. A new company was to be the operator, bu...

Can you link them? I'd like to see them. By detailed construction plans, I mean plans detailed enough that they specify things like the exact dimensions of proposed stations and exactly where they will be, electrical plans, plumbing plans, utility relocation plans, geotechnical reports all along th...
