10 - 12 Car M7 Trains

 by UpperHarlemLine4ever ¦  Sat Mar 14, 2020 12:18 am ¦  Forum: MTA Metro-North Railroad and CtRail Passenger Rail (SLE, Hartford, Extensions) ¦  Topic: 10 - 12 Car M7 Trains ¦  Replies: 9 ¦  Views: 2944

Have noticed 10 and 12 M3 trains on the Harlem line but never more than 8 car M7 trains. Heard that the substations have to be upgraded. Is that the case?

Re: 3rd Track for White Plains

Its really needed all the way to North White Plains. It would be self defeating to end ot south of White Plains. Service basically doubles from NWP. To triple track to south of WP would create a bottleneck.

Pateljones, the Asian equipment uses inferior metals which will rot out quicker than European or America metal. Its not an ethnic issue, its a longevity issue.

Photo shows how NB platform at Scarsdale is pushed all the way out with space for trackways to the right. Still exists this way today.

This is just a political power play. Siemens is a rail industry major league player. The MTA has had a history of not wanting to deal with German companies, even their American subsidiaries. This will "justify" not dealing with them. Siemens has been supplying American railroads with equip...

Thought the order for new equipment for the SIRT was cancelled. Know that it's cut off from the national rail network. Been that way for decades. The bridge to NJ reopened a few years ago but the northern branch that connected Arlington to St George was abandoned in the late 1950's. It's reconstruct...

New Cars for the SIRT

Why aren't there any plans to use M9's for the SIRT which are being delivered to the LIRR. Since the SIRT is technically a railroad under FRA control, these cars would fit the bill perfectly. They could divert 35-40 cars for use there. In the 1970s when they were awaiting the R44s, LIRR MP72s were p...

Additionally, all the land abutting the railroad right of way is public land, ie Scarsdale (incidentally, parking lot south of the train station, which is Eastchester's was leased to them by the railroad). So is the land in WP public land.

Not going to go through this again but NYC made provisions for 4 tracks all the way to NWP. World War 1 got in the way. Everyone keeps on talking about Scarsdale. The northbound platform was extended all the way out (have pictures) and north of the station, solil from the construction of the BRP was...

There was third track that was put in for testing new equipment on the Dyre Avenue line. Is it still in place?

So, has a contract been awarded for MN, LIRR & Amtrak locos yet? Lots of agencies are ordering Siemens Chargers.

Briken Down Train, White Plains

At 9:05PM today a train broke down in White Plains, causing 45 minute delays on the Harlem Line. No 3rd track, which would alleviated any delays because of the broken down trains. Instead the MTA is spending $92 million to make BS improvements at the station. But no 3rd track. Rebuilding an entire s...

The final plans for this summer's Empire Service were just recently completed. Regardless, Anderson will have a victory when the LSL is eliminated. He wants basically only corridor trains, with the ultimate elimination of all transcontinental trains. Taxpayer money is being spent on new dining cars ...

No Lake Shore from New York. Typical railroad scam that they've done for years to eliminate a train. 47 years ago, Penn Central/SCL wanted to eliminate a New York to Florida train. The ICC turned down their petition. They turned around and split the train into 2 sections, New York Penn to Washington...
