Since they were delivered in 2004, I highly doubt that they were to be delivered in IC colors...
I hear that some of the former Oakway SD60s are hitting the property...numbered in the 5400 series.
Don't leave out Kankakee as a possibility! You've got a small yard, siding, interlocking with the NS and 2 defect detectors near town. Not to mention 2 of the 4 curves between Homewood and Champaign! There's quite a bit of lumber that comes out of Canada for points south... we've also been hauling a...
Other than that, Amtrak has the lowest pay (engineer tops out at 34.35 per hour. Not bad, but low compared to the above mentioned freight carriers) 100% pay with Amtrak is $35.90 an hour, with overtime after 8 hours (and we get paid for 11 holidays throughout the year). Freight has to run off their...
One I hear all the time that I believe is mostly an old IC term, "Shoot(ing) the bill" for putting the train in emergency... Makes no sense to me...atleast not like 'big hole'....

Yes. You have to have the "handle off" position to put the unit in "trail". The older (non-electronic) brake controls have the automatic brake handle held on by a square hole on the handle that fits over the valve shaft. Slap the underside of the brake lever with an upward whack...
Some of the IC SD70's have been DP equipped and indeed have the markers applied. Many Dash 9's have been upgraded with EAB/DP and also have the markers. I'm not really sure why CN hasn't decided to retrofit the SD70/75I's.
CN loads grain into containers in Chicago to head overseas. Not really sure where they go, but they get quite a few hoppers every day.
Not much! You have the M337/M338 daily trains to and from Waterloo, IA and I think they still run M340 via the J to Hawthorne to get to the BRC. There's also the Broadview Local and the unscheduled ethanol trains. Once the new wye is installed at Munger, M338 will go via the J to Kirk Yard.

My favorite is the half fulled cup of stale coffee with the cigarette butts in it left on the control stand........its like COME ON.........
Most good crew callers will ask after giving the info if you are awake. The computer generated calls will get you frustrated enough you'll definitely be awake. CSX just started to use them when I left it was only around 10% of the calls. Back then if you hit the "refuse call" response it ...
I thought the original topic referred to washing the outside of the engine. But, my take on the inside is "leave it cleaner than it was when you got on it." I tend to work road jobs where we just swap off locomotives, or get/deliver them to a shop. Engines on today's railroad are generall...
I can't recall the exact rules, but some heavy mountain grade territory use of 100psi for freight is required.
I agree with trainline leakage being better these days. My longest train to date, 197 cars and over 2.25 mi long was able to maintain 87psi on the rear!

We have a wash rack at the Woodcrest (Homewood, IL) shop... It really doesn't clean much. A hand washing with brushes would be 1000 times better.
