Re: Green Line Type 9 Thread

Speaking of tracker oddities, right now I see 3686-3920-3664 on the B Line... (!). Can't attach a screenshot as I have no image hosting capability at present.

Re: Train To The Plane

In the past year-ish I've done TTP in both London and Toronto. Went "high class" both times - in London used Heathrow Express to Paddington and in Toronto used UPX to Union. I've never done it any other way in London so can't speak to how onerous the other options might be, although I am aware of th...

Re: Pan Am Worcester Main Line

Having enjoyed an unimpeded transit of the Temple Street crossing about 15 minutes prior to this event, the words of Maxwell Smart echo in my ears... "Missed it by that much!" Not at all unhappy to dodge that bullet, but I may have to plan accordingly as I usually route my evening journey via Shrews...

Re: Amtrak Downeaster Discussion Thread

Neat trivia - that branch line alongside I-295 and Deering Oaks Park is where they posed the German ICE high speed demonstration train Amtrak leased during the train's visit to Portland in September 1993.

Re: Hinkley Locomotive Works Boston,Ma

Assuming the address regime hasn't changed, the given address of 380 Harrison Avenue puts it on the west side of I-93 and the Fort Point Channel from the Red Line Cabot Shops and a couple blocks north of the Albany Street MBTA bus garage.

Re: Green Line Type 9 Thread

According to Transsee, none of the accepted cars have been out yet this month. Not that I can run out at any time to chase them, the one and only time I've ever seen a Type 9 was 3900's inaugural trip back in December. Seems the acceptance and revenue operation progress is crawling along extremely s...

Re: Quad Gates for HSR

You couldn't get a train through there at greater than 25mph if you tried, even with 4 engines pulling a 4 car train. So why spend the money on quad gates? Installing quad gates is one of the methods which can qualify a grade crossing as a "quiet zone", where the usual FRA requirements for sounding...

Now all they need to do is reopen that hot dog stand that used to be next to the stairs across from the Brattle Loop.

Re: Seashore Trolley Museum Discussion

Granted, last time I saw it was a couple years ago, but at that time it was under cover in one of the carbarns and looked to be in fairly good shape cosmetically.

Columbia Junction (Red Line) Derailment 6/11/19

Derailment reported on the Red Line at JFK/UMass station. At least one car derailed, which is resting at an angle directly underneath Columbia Road bridge. I know no other details. Not a good week on the subway!

Thanks. OK, train vs auto, slow speed. At first I thought it was train vs train. Hope there were no injuries.

According to NETransit, 3901 has been accepted for service. Hopefully they'll see more use in rush hours now that there is a 2 car train available.
