it's just a different rules system, CSX and predecessors had constant lighted signals from years ago. Conrail had approach lighting to save energy and increase bulb life. But with today's LED bulbs the energy use is lower and the life is much longer. CSX is not using LED signals in NY or really any...

The Rochester Subdivision is now from and including CP 296 to and including CP 382. The Buffalo Terminal Subdivision is from but not including CP 382 to and including CP 15. As of around 1630 hrs on 10/25/15 the cutover of new SafeTrans on the West Shore was pretty much complete..or at least the cutover trailer crew had cancelled their EC1. Here's a little before and after at Auto 364 https://www.flickr.com/photos/duncanrichards/22292623419/" onclick="window....
The West Shore cutover is scheduled for Sunday October 25. No signal suspension is needed on the Rochester Subdivision so I expect that trains will run primarily on the main through downtown Rochester. It may be a good opportunity to photograph a higher volume of traffic through that area.

Who or what makes the decision on the type of signal equipment that is installed? For instance the new westbound AS signals at cp285 are a two track cantilever and two wayside signals and the westbounds at cp286 has a three track cantilever and one wayside. My question is, why not four track signal...
Thank you, Nick, for the great info you've provided over the years. We all appreciate it, I'm sure. In my younger, stupider days, I would "get the shot". Folks, don't try this at home ... Here's a tidbit from May 1976 (Conrail + 1 month) at 373: This is an awesome shot. Have any more from...
