I visited Mott Haven today. Great sky conditions. I saw lots of Cosmopolitans, Metropolitans and aardvarks. I lucked out with a work train, two yellow locomotives flat car and a caboose. That area actually seems nice and the spot is just one block from the number 6 stop. Thanks for your replies. Wit...

Thanks for all the responses. I guess the reason why I asked about that bridge was that it looked like a place that railfans used to go to to get good pictures of the NYC. Mott Haven is in many older books though I get the impression that like many other older sites it is not today what it looked li...

Thanks. I should have asked this question, too. Is there a spot I could photograph from? I cannot tell from the google map if the bridge railings are too high for picture taking. Thanks again.

I am not that familiar with NYC but from books and photos I have thought that since I will be in the city next week I would try to get pictures of Mott Haven and the Metro North traffic through this interlocking, and maybe some CSX freight. I will be taking the number 4 or 5 subway and then walking ...

Thanks. I had no idea Springfield might not be a good area to hang around. Will the new England Central be running on a Saturday?

I will be staying in Northampton for a few days in July. I am totally unfamiliar with this area but believe there is a good deal of activity in nearby Springfield. I would like to get pix of freight with industry in the background or perhaps a station or a bridge and especially short line locomotive...

There's an article in this mornings Courier Post on the impact of industries and businesses south of Paulsboro. It's not a pretty picture.

What's happening to all those rail customers south of Paulsboro? The power plant and Dupont in Carney's point and Deepwater? The SMS short line in Pureland? Is there any other rail route to access these places? i can't imagine these places going for very long without rail service.

What I'd like to know is what Conrail is going to do with all that rail traffic and businesses south of Paulsboro, including a power plant.

This is bad news on several levels, one of which is that this route may be the only one for Conrail Shared assets to move equipment north and south from Carney's Point and Paulsboro to to Woodbury and on to Pavonia in Camden. Anyone know if there is some trackage redundancy anymore that would allow ...

Should you ever get to Sacramento (just stay on the train to Martinez about four or five more stops) and right off the station parking lot is the Golden State railroad Museum with an incredible book selection and other neat railroad items.

I may have mentioned this to you before but I highly recommend that you take Ca. Amtrak to Martinez, about 40 miles east of SF. There, right near the new station (the old one a good Espe design is a few hundred yards east) is a UP rail yard you can easily observe a few blocks from the station and a ...

Sorry, I don't know about that. Anything that runs on US 101 will go by some good spots but I don't know if you could get on and off a bus along that route.

The problem with Brisbane is access to the line. You will need a car to get close to the tracks where you can pix of the trains with the bay in the background. If you ride the train, the station to the south of Brisbane is South San Francisco. There is a small freight yard there for the UP locals th...
