Re: Electrify the Corridor

Agree with you there. Rather than this chit-chat that comes up every so often, someone should go ahead and create..."The Western Corridor"...ideally electrified. What would be the best name? And should it just be Calgary to Edmonton? Or should its ends serve smaller cities (We have the Que...

same cars in same MNCR/CDOT fleet, there will not be special SLE cars. the crew change just like today is in New Haven, from Amtrak to MNCR crew and other way around. So will there be some joint MNCR/SLE services that run all the way from Grand Central to...where's the SLE Eastern terminus again? w...

The way certain things are mentioned seems a bit odd....and who'd use the Quebec-Windsor corridor to get between New York and Chicago? (unless he means just new york STATE...and taking the train Niagara to Oakville and then connecting to Windsor, then taking taxi or bus across to Detroit, then hoppi...

One thing I'm curious about, will there be a special design for the M-8s going to the SLE? Or not? And may they start having "through service", with crews changing somewhere in CT? I heard that's one of the great things about the M-8, that it can use the higher voltage east of New Haven.

Amtrak: PTC Mandate, Progress System Wide

Hi. I read that PTC will be mandated (especially due to the Chatsworth incident). Also, there are some (probably MANY) stretches of track Amtrak use that could theoretically go faster than 79MPH but they can't, due to there not being the right "protection." If PTC is mandated everywhere, m...

Windsor? Don't you mean Sarnia? (The International never went via Windsor, although it was once proposed to do so) I read that the second "Niagara Rainbow" (overnight Maple Leaf, not the previous one that linked Detroit and New York) had VIA Rail's niagara-Toronto train added to it once in...

CSX's "Corridor of the Future"....boon to Amtrak?

Go to here at the NARP website. Notice there's a mention about CSXT wanting to convert their Washington-Florida line into a "Corridor of the Future", with a minimum of 3 tracks along the way (and quad in some places), and pax at 110MPH, freight at 70MPH. Would this work? And could this som...

Bussiness class changes on Maple Leaf?

Yes, maybe they should have different business class cars on Maple Leaf, to better sell it. And, I read somewhere that the business class tickets are NOT available at all from the Canadian end. What's with that? Perhaps have a special co-branded car, with a name like "Gold Leaf" as well as...

What are the details?

Does this mean a train that runs between Albany and Burlington? Is this a new route, or a proposed rerouting of the Ethan Allen Express?

Here's another interesting thing. CN called them "RDC-5", to make things more confusing, but it seemed more logical. Was there ever any "5, 6, 7, and 8" variants planned that just didn't see the light of day? All of VIA's RDC-5s were from CN who got them from B&M, but they we...

And I'll throw in something else...around 2002-2003 (or there abouts), they leased Pullman Standard bilevels from Chicago's Metra.

Or took the SEPTA to Trenton, then NJT rest of the way. Apparently there are even "combined" tickets SEPTA/NJT to New York from Philly that are cheaper than Amtrak. Back to Connecticut...the commuter service might be the best. And as I suggested before, if they can "electrify" Sh...

If I seem to be going slightly off topic...when did "Amtrak California" start? Hopefully something along the same lines (no pun intended) could start...maybe "Amtrak Midwest?"

And you think the same thing might also happen on the California corridors? *Curious* I mean the "reward" for expanding service.
