Re: "Power To Spare" MA&N Alcos (video)

I have a MA&N question unrelated to power, but I'll ask it here rather than start a new topic. I've read several places online that the MA&N "northern division" includes Carthage to Newton Falls and Carthage to Lowville. Looking at Google Maps, the tracks seem to still be in all the way to Newton Fa...

Re: Bergen-Shore Express

You don't need the Secaucus loop for this to be possible. The track connection this train used to use still exists. Actually, 2 connections. First, there is a "wye" in Jersey City (40.741917, -74.068417), going back to the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western RR in the late 1800s, https://www.google.co...

Re: American Dream Opening and Expanded Meadowlands Rail Service

Got it. I surmised that this was different from the Secaucus loop, but was trying to understand how it would increase service. Now I know - by avoiding the time for the crew to change ends, mainly. So now I ask - how long does that take? Are there a new set of tests, e.g. brake tests, or some other...

Re: New NJTransit Schedules Effective 9/7

@Pumpers see the top of page 2 at the link below, right under the fare table: * Until further notice, Hoboken-bound passengers may travel via Secaucus at the normal Hoboken fare by presenting their Hoboken ticket/pass to the faregate attendant. It's in really small font; I wonder if this was on pur...

Re: New NJTransit Schedules Effective 9/7

Yankees1, Eurostar, I just checked on the NJ Transit advanced trip planner. https://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TripPlannerItineraryTo I see what you mean. If you take the 7:48 AM Long Branch train direct to Hoboken, you pay $12.00 If you get off that same train at Newark Penn ...

Meaning simply you can start/end your trip at NY Penn station instead of Hoboken for any destination/origin in the Hoboken division? Or is there more to it than that?

Re: American Dream Opening and Expanded Meadowlands Rail Service

I'm missing something on this "seamless public transit" between Secaucus Transfer station and the Meadowlands station. What "seam" is the problem that needs solving, apart from frequency of service? The NJT main line (and Pascack Valley line) and the spur to the station itself are all double track a...

Re: Could it be 3 miles long?

No one in their right mind would. That is why they have more roving carmen now, and more company vans ready to move the conductor around. More times than not it will work out to the benefit of the RR though. To further that point, with a ROW that was once probably at least 4 tracks, now with genera...

Re: Dover & Delaware River RR

Our reporter on the spot! Thanks pd. Did they also have to move the switch to the NS main because of the resulting grade? Actually, some deja vu feeling I am having tells me they may have already moved the switch a few years ago in preparation, or maybe I am just mis-remembering someone else's post ...

Re: Dover & Delaware River RR

Work began on Tuesday to lower the railroad under the S.Main St bridge in Phillipsburg. Finally! This has been a long time in coming, that's for sure. If I recall correctly, I think long-time NJ poster cjvrr has posted about plans for this on occasion, back before the D&D - maybe he can fill us in...

Re: NYC High Line Question

I've read that rails were sometimes moved around and rearranged during the park construction. So I wouldn't take what the rails look like in the current Highline park to represent what they actually looked like in detail when in service. Historical RR accuracy was not the aim of the park.
