Perhaps the German government should compensate Nederlandse Spoorwegen for the compensation they are paying out for their wartime activities under Germany's control. That is in the spirit of European cooperation in commerce.

It appears that the Sacramento light rail system is going to be our sister system to the north. I wish them luck in becoming more like the Trolley.

I was under the impression that Amtrak sleeper trains were mostly used by people on vacation. I took the Sunset Limited from Los Angeles to New Orleans last month and I think most of the passengers were on vacation. As long as people want to take trains for vacation, sleepers will exist.

It is somewhat difficult to take the train to the airport in San Diego. The Coaster and Amtrak do stop at the Santa Fe Depot downtown. From there, you go on the city bus to the airport. The San Diego Trolley also stops at the depot, but you can also catch a shuttle from the Middletown stop a few mil...

Right--I was told by a trainman that the interlocking at the west end of Solana Beach (can't think of the name) was named after a local Congressman who was instrumental in securing funding for the grade separation. As to the pre-Coaster Surf Line, there's a book out on the history of that line show...

Could have been an interchange run from the Mexican RR there, from an outdated track chart, there was an extensive network of industry tracks from the station to the border, some of which extended onto piers. It is possible that was an interchange from the San Diego and Imperial Valley Railroad that c...

The Trolley here in San Diego will be expanding their Siemens fleet, but I do not think they will be adding any new models to the three they already have.

Breathtaking, when you think of it: within living memory there were three San Diegan round trips a day to and from LA, making only Fullerton, Santa Ana, Oceanside, and Del Mar, plus an all-stops local, and no commuter service at all. Between Santa Ana and San Diego there were three controlled sidin...

Daytime BNSF Freight in San Diego

Today, August 3rd 2019, I saw a rare daytime freight train in San Diego. A northbound BNSF freight was passing by the Santa Fe Depot downtown at around 2:30. I observed it passing by from my apartment, which has a view of the tracks through downtown. This did not look like a regular manifest freight...
