Re: All things Pennsylvanian AND Keystone West

I think that we can expect the second frequency to cannibalize some ridership from the existing train, but we can also expect the second frequency to induce new ridership on both trains that partly offset what it cannibalizes from the existing train. Looking at the numbers from adding a second freq...

Question now is what does SEPTA do with double the number of ACS-64s it needs? Look for used push pull cars? Tack on some push pull coaches to someone else’s order (Amtrak and a Siemens commuter coach variant)! Sell 7-8 of the Sprinters to someone else? Keep all 15 and use them for the next 5 decade...

Good grief. MBTA should be next. I have questions for MBTA as to why they are PAYING an additional $100 million plus to CRRC to expedite the remainder of their order when it's CRRC that got behind in the first place, never mind all the issues with their cars. Sounds like MBTA is desperate to get th...

If I remember correctly that was about what the Pennsylvanian’s operational subsidy was pre-Covid for one round trip so that makes sense a second would be that amount.

They showed the damage to the bridge on the news and there was no way a train was going to cause it to collapse. Best guess is they stopped the trains to make it safer and faster for the crews inspecting and repairing the damaged steel. Correct. If the bridge was that damaged, the bridge would have...

Does Pennsylvania subsidize the entire Keystone Service, or only that part which extends west of Harrisburg (i.e., does Amtrak pick up the tab on the Keystones from Philadelphia to NYC)? I ask because although the Amtrak Virginia services all operate north of Washington, Virginia only subsidizes th...

They probably have too many (new) people asking about it. That said, I'm with Pennsylvania on this. It's 2 hours between Harrisburg and Philly, and another 1.5 hours Philly to the Big Apple. If your station doesn't have food, then there's your problem. +1. And if you don’t plan ahead and bring food...

That is correct. Pennsylvania does not want to pay for it. I would consider it a waste as the service is really a quasi commuter service between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. I have been taking Keystones most evenings home from work to Paoli and I have noticed the crew announcing there is no cafe ca...

If I'm not mistaken, Keystones don't have food service because Pennsylvania won't subsidize it, correct? Not that I'm interested in eating Amtrak's food (no disrespect, I just prefer food from the towns I visit). I also wonder if a cafe car would make sense on the Keystone if money (for funding the...

Had this arrangement ever caused people to pick a Regional over a Keystone between Philly and NYP? If I remember correctly, the same arrangement is used for the Pennsylvanian due to the engine change at 30th Street as well.

At least once a week 9591 gets cancelled to issues with the push pull sets. Today’s adventures in SEPTA not having a clue involve the 9591 set dying before making it to Temple, SEPTA announcing a new train is coming from 30th Street on track 5 that subsequently gets cancelled itself forcing everyone...

9591 has died at least twice this week during the evening commute. Tonight it is blocking track 4 at Jefferson. On Tuesday night it died before even making it to Temple. I wasn’t in on Monday or Wednesday, but I heard it has had issues other days. Considering how many Sprinters are sitting around a ...
