Shame all these transit options were torn down.
That is what many consider progress.

To some of the powers that be it was cheaper to knock it down rather than rebuild.

Re: Service Changes, Unusual Subway Sightings and Reroutes

For two weekends - August 16-19, 2019 and August 23-26, 2019, the M is being routed via the D from 34th St/6th Av to 59th St-Columbus Circle where it then becomes a local along Central Park West (like the C) to 145th St (lower Level - like the B). This is partially due to provide extra service as th...

Re: Times Square 42nd St Shuttle Station Renovation

No, there won't be 8 or 9 car trains running. For the R62s, there are always a few single cars floating around (after all, the 7 used 5- and 6-car sets and the 6 uses only 5-car sets). They will run 6-car sets of R188s or R262s after the R62s are retired. Yes they ran 5 and 6 car sets of R62s (to m...

Re: Times Square 42nd St Shuttle Station Renovation

I read the article in the first posting and wonder - if they are going to run two 6 car trains where are they going to get the 2 extra cars from. At present the shuttle is 10 cars (3, 4, 3), the trains on the 1, 3 and 6 lines are all 10 cars long. Does that mean that when the reno is complete there ...

Re: Subway Service to Ebbet's Field and Polo Grounds

Also at one point didn’t Put trains utilize the Harlem River Bridge of the 9th Avenue El? Or am I thinking of the NYW&B and the 2nd Avenue Bridge? The bridge was opened around 1880 when the New York, Westchester & Putnam Railway leased the West Side & Yonkers Railway and extended service to 155th S...

Re: City Hall IRT Station

I, on the other hand, recommend that you use the side windows in the 7th, 8th or 9th cars. The train will be traveling slowly through the station and will have restrictive signals ahead as it gets closer to the uptown Brooklyn Bridge platform so if the train has to stop then those cars may still be ...

Re: Subway Service to Ebbet's Field and Polo Grounds

CORRECTION In my post above I stated that the 9th Av El was extended in 1918 from the terminal at 129th St. The 9th (& 6th) Av El terminated at 155th St/8th Av (next to the Polo Grounds). In 1918 it was extended from there to Sedgewick Av station, Anderson Av station and then connected to the new I...

Re: Subway Service to Ebbet's Field and Polo Grounds

The shuttle was a remnant of the 9th Ave El which was extended in 1918 from the 129th St terminal to connect with the new IRT Jerome Av Line. After the 9th Av line in Manhattan closed the shuttle provided extra service to the Polo Grounds especially needed if the Giants and the Yankees both had home...

Track Y3 is still in place and is presently used mainly for equipment moves between Dyre and E 180.

Just F Y I track Y4 has been extended to the entire length of the Pelham Parkway station (it used to end mid platform).

Re: Leisure Ride on the SIRT? Maybe PATH?

Thanks Allan, I usually try to stop at the train show at the museum annex during Christmas time, they do a nice layout. We'll actually be taking the Harlem Line down to Grand Central first (I usually take Empire trains, but I'd prefer schedule flexibility for that weekend), going down to the hotel ...

Re: Leisure Ride on the SIRT? Maybe PATH?

Hey folks, My girlfriend and I are going down to the city in January for the NYBG Train Show, and she would like to see the Statue of Liberty. Instead of dishing out for the Circle Line, I'd like to try taking the ferry since it's free. I've never been to Staten Island and was wondering if it'd be ...

Re: Longest possible fantasy subway routing.

Must be feasible with current equipment and infrastructure. I'm thinking Queens Boulevard line starting at 179th street Jamaica, 8th Avenue line in Manhattan to Fulton Street line Brooklyn and terminating at Far Rockaway. Is that really the best? Thank you. I would still think that at 31 miles the ...

Re: Trash train timings

Good morning I am heading to New York and may find time to do some railfanning / spotting in the central New York area, mainly Penn and Grand Central. Does anyone know if there are any unsual workings in this area and when they usually run? Ive seen a few garbage train videos in the New York area, ...

It depends on what you are using to read the pdf. The library computer I was using showed it as page 471.

I suggest that when the file is open do a search/find for 212.21 rather than the page.
