The Texas Eagle is getting its SSL back.
So how is this scheme going to work on Amfleet, VLs, and Superliners? The next gen equipment get dark blue over the whole car. Amtrak is not going to do that with the present metal fluted cars.
Will someone please call Brightline.
Remember a Trains Article about the Chase accident and it stated the investigators were surprised the Amfleet held up . Nothing could have the first Amfleet car in the Colonial consist from physics in the crash, but behind it, the cars held up very well going from 125 mph to 0.
Would be a good time for Amtrak to reimagine what a LD train should look like when looking at next gen equipment. If Amtrak can improve the pax experience on the LDs for a small surcharge over coach, it will improve the popularity of LDs immensely.
I think there's an argument to be made for both, as you all have done. I saw an Acela in Stamford recently. It looked tired. Could its visual appearance be refreshed? Of course. The issue is, are the mechanical aspects "refreshable"? Sure. But at what cost? I would say that the Acela bran...

Correct on Alstom's involvement with the Acela Is. It makes no financial sense to keep the Acela Is around. If this idea is based on sentimentality, that's another matter.
Whether the ICT concept is sound is another matter too, but it has nothing to do with keeping the mx intensive Acela Is around.
Everyone - This is an interesting but not totally surprising development concerning some of the original Acela equipment - which to me is being replaced far too soon understanding that they were all sturdily built... I am of the opinion that Amtrak should "downgrade" the Acela One trainse...
Genesis locomotives had the same teething problems 30 years . Siemens will figure it out.
UltraDome is a patented product design. However, do not think the Stadler design is.

Look at the Nighjets as to replacement for Superliner. The nightjets have a slumber coach like car that is pseudo bilevel. More sleep options than at present. A Bombardier Multi level may work but the ceiling will be lower than on an Amfleet or Superliner. The possibility of LD fleet and corridor fl...
Mr. Matt W, anyone about to suggest making up some trains of A-I's, send them off to Hyder, Crescent City, Joplin, and Mendon, recreate the conditions at each site, and see what happens? Just use previous derailments. Back in the 80s the State House , a F40 and four amfleets hit a dump truck at spe...
