Thanks all for your posts. It seems that accidents being caused by local time is somewhat of a fallacy. There are lots of incidences of time interval working being the cause, but none purely based on confusions between local times.

I've often read that railway time was introduced in the UK and the US because of a number of accidents caused by non-standard time. However, I've never found any description of an accident which specifically makes reference to a disparity in local times causing an accident. One alleged such accident...
