Well the store that was on the ROW burned down a year or so ago, so that's one obstacle gone.

So I posted in another forum, and it apparently belongs to the condos on the other side of Weasel Brook, but got flooded and nobody uses it.

On the west side of the track, just south of US46, I was looking on the satellite view, and there's what looks like an abandoned park, with overgrown tennis courts or athletic fields of some kind. DOesn't look like there's any access from local streets either. Anybody know what that is?

Crossings have been paved over, there's a washout or two, and would face NIMBY's. It's more than that: the ROW is gone through part of Monsey. There's a store sitting on it where it crosses Route 306 https://goo.gl/maps/SKtiHicyPqysaoxr9 , and tracks are gone from Saddle RIver Road all the way east...

That's the same company that became PSE&G, isn't it? I guess if they were generating power to run their traction lines, they probably had excess to sell to residential service, and now the trolleys are gone, their sideline became their main business.

Damn. That file says it all. Shame, too. Didn't they just recently (less than ten years ago) redo the rails under the pavement on Monroe street? I hope they salvage the equipment that's been rusting away in their "yard" before they rip all the tracks out, but I doubt it'll move by rail bec...

That's still technically a draw span, per 33 CFR 117.738. Needs to open on signal for water traffic on 24 hours notice, and public vessels of the USA must be passed through "as soon as possible". Does it still open now, and will it be rebuilt as such? (When they rebuilt the Union Avenue Br...

Heard lots of horns tonight blowing for crossings coming from that general vicinity (I'm a few blocks from the Passaic station on the Main Line) from about 12:45 AM to right about now (1:00 AM). Might be a train moving on that line now. (There aren't any grade crossings on the Main Line.)

Birch Lumber got a boxcar today about 11:00 AM. Sorry, I didn't get the locomotive number. I was visiting a company around the corner that sells pharmacy supplies, was going out to the parking lot and saw the locomotive and boxcar backing across the concrete trestle over River Road; followed it arou...

There were two shopped cars in Port Jervis and they were being brought down to the MMC. OK, so that explains it. Thanks. (There was a cab car leading it, and the loco was facing north (timetable west); the two extra cars were coupled to the nose. Without those two cars, it would have been just anot...

I was driving south on the Thruway yesterday from Harriman at about 3:10 PM. The on-ramp passes over the Port Jervis line, and just as I crossed it I saw a strange train go by. Now I've seen trains with the locomotive at the front, and I've seen trains with the locomotive at the back and a cab car l...

I met Mr Hockaday at the OMid, back in the 90s. I'd ridden the last excursion of the season and was watching him putting the 6777 away for the winter; he was gracious enough to let me into the engine room and cab (after he'd shut it down) and show me around. I noticed him taking a sample of the lube...
