Re: 110 MPH corridors

I think that on the Hiawatha 110 is a reasonable goal because there is really only one curve that could use a slight straightening, otherwise the rest of the alignment is good for much faster speeds. The one curve could be fixed pretty easily. Except for that one house... Screen Shot 2019-04-01 at 5...

I believe that this is a corridor that would perform very well on Induced Demand. In other words, if the corridor was faster, more comfortable, and overall a better experience than driving people would take it. The reason that there isn't very frequent service currently is that most people simply ch...

In the Focus 2040, under the Green Line, it says that they are considering extending the GL past College Avenue to the Mystic Valley Parkway.

If the trains were to go from the FEC to Orlando and Tampa it'd be embarrassing for Amtrak because the tracks will be just as fast as the NEC, but smoother.

Accessing Worcester Airport via Airport Drive as shown on the map would require a cog steetcar as the grades are 30-40%. You would have to come in either from the other end of Airport Drive or via Main Street/Goddard Blvd and even then I think you'd be dealing with 10-20% grades over a long pull. I...

The money can come from a real-estate tax that is put on buildings that are within a certain distance from the corridor. This is how the Portland Streetcar was funded. Streetcars boost construction because unlike buses when there is physical infrastructure nearby (rails and wires) people see that an...

I think that a Streetcar in Worcester would be extremely beneficial to the fast growth in Worcester. Streetcars have been found to boost economic development, for example, in Portland, Oregon which would be extremely beneficial for adding onto existing momentum that exists in the city. The city is e...

Beyond that, yes, pressure will build for Extending the D/C from College Ave to Mystic Valley Parkway and extending the E from Union to Porter Sq or Alewife/Waverly. But also note that the Orange at 5min headways is going to be a superpower, and communities along the Blue & Orange are going to ...

Once this project goes online because of increased frequencies there will likely be increased ridership. Increased ridership will mean that we will see increased demand and support for further expansion projects. This will mean that the Green Line can go even further to the North, and the Orange Lin...

I think that the 10-minute frequencies in the Netherlands actually does apply here. We should strive for such frequencies on some routes, and on other routes, we should strive to achieve those frequencies for part of the route, for example, 10-minute frequencies to Littleton/Rte 495 on the Fitchburg...

I don't know if a gondola makes a whole lot of sense. I think that a people mover like that of Orlando airport would be the most logical choice.

On February 20th, I took a ride on Brightline from Fort Lauderdale to Miami. The ride was very smooth, the stations were clean, the trains were clean, the people were friendly, and overall it was as near to perfect as one can get in my opinion. I thought that every part of the process was seamless. ...

Remember, the Netherlands has announced that train service between nine cities will reach frequencies of 10 mins by 2040. This means that we should strive for the same on our commuter railroads. The MBTA must be electrified for faster acceleration and faster turn around times.

If Amazon were to come to Boston instead of New York City, I wonder how that would affect the NSRL because the proposed Central Station would be at the Aquarium Blue Line station. The Blue Line is also the line that the proposed location of the Amazon HQ is/was (Suffolk Downs).
