Re: The Flying Yankee

I have not walked the Bartlett wye, but I believe the tongue is only about one engine length, so it would need to be extended, if that is possible, for the FY to be turned.... Its been a few years, but from what I have heard it is unlikely it will be rebuilt for the foreseeable future. I am not sur...

Re: The Flying Yankee

today's kids don't seem to be quite as wild about restoring historic things as former generations. I know this has been beaten to death by several members already, but there is more to it than just this. There is a big issue with museums and organizations finding younger members (not just in the rr...

Re: PAR GP40-2Ws (MEC 500 Series)

MEC 502 has been repainted, by the sounds the plan is to do the rest of the GP40-2LW fleet along with getting PTC installed in them.

Does 4266 not get used regularly? I remember back in the late 90's they'd connect it with another engine to make the runaround with.
Railfans day was the first day it had been used this season. If I recall it was sitting dead and drained behind the roundhouse when I stopped in back in June.

Re: Rumford Branch, RUPO / PORU

A GMTX painted GP38 was spotted on I believe AYPO today enroute to Rumford. There was a sighting on CSX of another GP38 with GMTX markings. The unit looks to be exNS and is still in NS paint with GMTX patches. This unit I assume is for Old Town.

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

MEC #501 is perfect steam locomotive for any kind of action up on the " Notch Line " for many reasons I have stated before. How about CSRX getting some parts of her restoration work started & give railfans something to really sink their teeth into? As it has been stated, the restoration isn't a pri...

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

I do agree that the passengers should have had a photo run by. The stop at Whitefield was to pump water into the tender and to inspect the steam engine. The reason why passengers were not let out was because they would have had to detrain on the crossing, and they were trying not to block it hence w...

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

How was the freight run yesterday? I heard trespassers had to be reported at Glen Ellis. There was what looked like 3 kids on the tracks, they were either on the tracks or too close to them when the train came along, so the crew stopped. I talked to a few people shooting near the bridge, and they s...

I should have specified, as far as I know they are still short one or two people in management. I am not sure about the train ops side of things.

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

I was told the Railfans day schedule was late due to staffing issues. It seems like this year’s schedule is watered down. I am not trying to start a argument here, and I like the work the new owners are doing to the railroad, and I know Railfans day doesn’t necessarily pay for itself from what I hav...

Re: LMS, No. Maine Junc.

LMS isn't closing, it actually just got bought by Mathews Brothers in Belfast and they have given LMS (Ed Burkhardt) a 2 year lease to keep its current business (Huber, St. Croix, and Twin Rivers) and find another warehouse to move. Since there currently isn't another warehouse on CMQ, it could be ...

Re: Railfanning (if any) West of Bangor

NMWA is on duty at 08:00 and WANM reports at 18:00, so the only road job you will see in the light is NMWA. CMQ Job 211 runs to Searsport on Monday and Thursday, and the crew reports at NMJ at 10:00 AM. CMQ Job 202 to and from Brownville Jct. is a night time operation, although I have heard that CMQ...

The trains article had a few errors in it. CMQ runs at 25MPH on almost all of their track.
