Re: New MNR/CTrail Schedule

I took train #3542 the 4:16 super express to New Haven last Friday. It was well filled, especially for a summer Friday, yet was still very comfortable and uncrowded. I enjoyed the trip and it did have the relaxed, comfortable and peaceful feel I associate more with Amtrak than Metro North. We arrive...

it is over 6 months without any cars in service. What is going on?? A Quality Assurance process that will not release vehicles into daily service until all the problems with them have been fixed is what is going on. How many problems there are I have no idea, but I hope they are resolving the probl...

By this fall, do you mean 2022 or 2021? Yep, fall 2021. "Winter" technically begins on December 21 this year, which concurs with what I usually hear, which is when someone writes "Winter 20XX", winter refers to the first few months of the new year. Anyway, 2022 may be a a milest...

According to the NEC Commission, Track 6 electrification work for SLE will be underway this fall. That certainly suggests that there is a plan for electrified SLE service beyond Old Saybrook in the future. With relatively low passenger volumes, I wonder if they could handle loading and unloading thr...

There are a bunch of pots of money in the bill that CTDOT could tap into, and some money that is just being delivered that is for discretionary purposes across the modes. I would bet that CTDOT is in a very good position to channel these funds into station improvements on WBL. Given how many station...

I'm just referring to the put-off study to close the gap left by NEC future. I don't know what the route options should be, though my reading of the topic of the last several years is that there is a greater desire at the state level to route the line through Hartford than along the shore. The initi...

This thread deserves a bump with Biden's infrastructure plan hitting the main stage this week. I'll offer my hopes for different levels of investment in rail (CT Only): Low - Bridge replacement funding stream -Barnum station-level projects (a lousy project, in place of addressing the real needs of t...

I'd expect this project, and the SEHSR corridor in general, to feature in Biden's big infrastructure plan. Expanding "high-speed rail" to NC and VA is a good look. But it remains to be seen if a project like this is ambitious or modest in the context of what he proposes.

It's a photo of the exterior... what exactly can you judge about the mechanical overhaul from that?

This NEC FY21-25 Capital Investment Plan is a pretty good source of information. http://nec-commission.com/fy21-25-cip/special_projects/ Wiring New London's track 6 is in here as Shore Line East Track & Catenary Improvements (FY 22), to start this spring and last a year, apparently fully funded ...

Great to see testing at this stage. Hope to see much more footage. With Covid's impact on peak commutation, CDOT is going to be swimming in M8s for years to come. Therefore CDOT's primary argument for keeping the 60+ new M8s west of New Haven no longer holds water. I hope that further pushes CDOT to...

Yes, I wonder how it will be operated. With the shuttle train kept to this track, I wonder if schedules will be modified for the NYC bound local train to be at the platform when the express arrives. Right now the typical off-peak practice is for the shuttle train to come out of the yard a few minute...

So what are we looking at here? Do we expect the additional 6th track will end at bumper blocks, or will it merge with the northmost track? (Can't recall the number off top of head. Will the platform connect seamlessly to the existing side platform? I imagine it must to accommodate ADA. Looks like s...

So when's it hit 150?

And does anyone know if 165 in MA / RI is contingent on infrastructure upgrades or not?
