[quote="Gilbert B Norman" post_id=1575735 time=1626182175 user_id=256] Now so far as Diesel/Catenary locomotives go, didn't NJTransit have some from overseas that have also proven to be "duds"? All told, all I know is "my overseas Disneyland" of Austria hasn't any. I fu...

Cheap sensationalist headline designed to make the Brexit loving readership of the Telegraph feel superior to those "foreigners" (given that the original story is from the Telegraph). As you say much of it will be a simple "experience the tube" check-mark on a tourist itinerary, ...

Really not enough information to go on, will depend on what their interests are and what sort of budget they have available. Going to Wikipedia gives us the local station https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinckley_railway_station which then leads us to both the line the station is on gives easy direct s...

Last thing VIA needs is yet another small fleet of non-standard equipment.

Far better to keep and spend money on cars that have at least some commonality (both in maintenance worker training/procedures and parts inventory) with the exisitng Budd fleet.

The FLIRTs are whole-consist connected trains, like the Tailgos, but with engines on both ends. You can see an example of them on HinduCowGirl's Youtube channel. You could have one end electric and another end diesel, but you still have the same problem as above, and you'll get new problems: If one...

I agree, it would be a losing proposition if the electric locomotive was being dragged. But suppose it was doing the pulling instead, with smaller diesels supplying the electric power to it from the car immediately behind it? If Stadler can do it on FLIRT trains, the technology exists to do it on S...

Re: Reseau Express Metropolitain (REM) Montreal, QC, Canada

Yes, 25kV, but why would Denver want them?

Denver's fleet is 20 years younger than the MR-90, and is small enough at 66 cars that the last thing the need is to introduce a second model with the associated training/spare part/etc issues that would bring.

Only passenger service up there will be the Canadian on CN, and Sudbury - White River on CP.

The current PM, as part of his Queen's speech to re-open Parliament and set the stage for the election he wants, has announced that the current rail franchise system will be scrapped next year and replaced with something "better" http://www.railtechnologymagazine.com/Rail-News/boris-johnso...

In general taking any train from the UK and trying to use it in the US is going to be a bad idea. UK trains, thanks to history, are just far too small for US uses and by the time you start making all the changes to make them American you may as well have started from scratch. Mainland Europe equipme...

Can't help with Montreal knowledge, but I would guess that you were correct in that it was an Ottawa or Toronto train being wyed (the new trains that are on order are specified as bi-directional to eliminate the need for reversing the trains). As for which train it was, I can recall that VIA's train...

No, he was explaining the time (and hence money) required to deal with rotating seats - and didn't include the additional maintenance costs or the cost of having the train out of service. With fixed seats not only does Amtrak not have to pay people to rotate the seats but it also means the train can...
