Regardless of whether some people on this thread are either or opposed to re-establishing track 3 (not sure why they're opposed but it seems they are) or in favor thereof, the opinions expressed (and they are only opinions) could well be irrelevant. The huge package that Joe Biden is pushing, which ...

TRAIN60, Thanks~! Although that was actually the e-mail address that I was using. However, I tried again today, and it appears to have gone through. What I wanted to ask him has to do with the huge amount, almost obscene amount of money that Joe Biden is proposing to spend on rail (I didn't use the ...

I mentioned above about the ctmirror article that quoted Rich Andreski stating that "this time we're serious" about electrification of the Danbury line. Well, guess what? I tried to contact CDOT directly and learned that Andreski left the department in 2022 - probably shortly after the int...

TRAIN60, Thanks for your help on this. That worked. This map also helped me refresh my memories from early childhood. I did not remember the Wilson Point track crossing Route 136 on a bridge but someone else earlier in this thread and on another list mentioned the bridge, so I guess it must've been ...

Here's a link to USPS topographic map for South Norwalk from 1943 where you can clearly see the line all the way to its end point near Wilson Avenue. Interesting to see that it was two tracks at the time and had many sidings. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/e36hp5q4oca0h8ag7qnwp/CT_Norwalk-South_330...

DMU's like the Stadler (they have a plant in Salt Lake City) would be a rational choice to handle the drastically reduced ridership. Gil, Yes, off topic indeed but you've made a valid point. What you advocate doing is actually a sort of revival of the Budd RDC concept with new, state-of-the-art tec...

It’s been mentioned at least twice on this thread that the ONLY reason the New Haven Railroad ever electrified the Danbury Branch at all was in order to eliminate a steam locomotive facility at Stamford. However, I’m not completely convinced that was the one and only reason why they did this. There ...

Gil,

The one real advantage I can see in battery powered locomotives on the Danbury branch and, please, forgive me if I'm getting a bit too facetious, but the REAL advantage would be that it might make the climate change alarmists happy.

Regards,

In this article that had also been quoted above,: https://ctmirror.org/2022/04/10/why-they-de-electrified-the-danbury-branch/ ,it was stated that “CDOT’s rail chief Rich Andreski says ‘we are serious this time’”. Not they’re not. They are, in my opinion, definitely not “serious”. Because in the very...

Going back and responding to my own post on the trolley wire, I went back and looked at the old photo in Cornwall’s book again. The fact is that the photo clearly indicates that there were TWO TRACKS there ~ ! Why two tracks? My best guess is, and this is only a guess, is that the second track was m...

Yes, but that’s only an opinion and an opinion that I respect as far as that goes. However, “robelybasis” stated that the restoration of track #3 is already in the works although that’s not gonna happen right away. From my own personal experience, here is a scenario that can happen: A westbound Amtr...

Actually, by looking at Google Earth satellite views some more and by zooming in, it’s possible to make out a row of trees that curves away from near the west end of the South Norwalk M-N station. Then that row trees proceeds down a slight hill to South Main Street. The row of trees then runs right ...

Jeff,

Yeah, I did that, too the other day. I could not see where a rail line had ever been there.

Does anyone know when the Wilson Point Spur was abandoned and when the track and rails were pulled up? There was also a railroad bridge over Rt 136 (Wilson) that was also taken down. One person has told me ten years ago and Norwalk PLanning said in the 80's. Very much varying answers! Yikes. Yikes ...
