My wife just turned on channel 2 and there was a Metra Electric train shooting off sparks in a bad way in a cell phone video. The anchor described it as an explosion. They reported that 60 people were trapped on the train and that there were no injuries. https://twitter.com/CNshooter/status/62513478...
Indiana is trying to do this on the cheap. Nah, I think this is the real winner. The cool thing  is that if they cheap out enough and make enough mess, no one will ride the train and they won't have to fund anything. That might not be the explicit plan, but it will meet the goal of saving mon...
Interesting, I had no idea.

I gasped when I saw that its an actual state government plan.
So it sounds like Plainfield East High School has chartered a Metra train to take the kids to prom at Union Station. http://pehs.psd202.org/pages/Plainfield_East_High_School/About_Us/News___Calendar_Resources/News_Resources/SchoolAnn/IMPORTANT__Prom_Traffic_Inform This is an important message for ou...
If you promise not to ask why I promise not to say, but I found this bit of oddness on the interweb. http://www.dot.state.wy.us/files/live/sites/wydot/files/shared/Planning/Passenger%20Rail%20Interim%20Report.pdf You read right. As a matter of regular operations? I have no idea.
I can tell you that I was riding the wrong side of the tracks in Chicago this weekend. They were doing repairs, which frequently leads to wrong-way running. That said, they do seem to try to limit that sort of operation to the weekend nights.
I'd rather cross the platform for a waiting train than wait in the train for all the testing.
And when I say waiting train, I do mean carefully timed so as to meet not sitting there idle waiting for the Swift.
I'm nearly alone in referring to Ogilvie Transportation Center as North Western Station, but I'm sort of cranky about that particular point. People look at me. I'd say that most people I hear name it call it one of three things. Ogilvie, the train station, the Chicago train station. For most travele...

Metra is bustituting from Edison Park to Dee Road. Having driven on the roads between the two at rush hour, it's not a trip I'd care to make. Due to a gas leak near the Park Ridge Depot, bussing will be provided between Dee Road to Edison Park for inbound or outbound trains. Metra passengers can als...
About whatever it was they were planning with a terminal under Block 37: I never quite got how that would work without seriously interfering with existing service. I could swear that I heard that the structural part was built but not any of the tunnels leading into it. Like it's ready to go for fut...
