They already had 1900 gallon tanks, so there was no need to modify them. The older -3's only had 1500 gallon tanks before rebuild, and were restricted from running some equipment cycles, so they were fit with bigger tanks during rehab so the units wouldn't have restrictions any more. The 1900 gallon...

423 has been in service for awhile, it was running on the Rock Island since coming out of overhaul. It was just returned to the MILW earlier this week.

423 is at KYD getting repainted.

98 has never run yet, and 99 runs about once a week and breaks down.

Also, 196 has been temporarily reassigned to the Rock Island District.

^The HEP inverters are a real pain to fix in Metra's MP36's. They are always having issues, always have. Good luck with that!

Not as far as I know.

I don't think the fuel tanks on the F59s are big enough to run on the weekends- they're only 1500 gallons.

107 and 179 are back on their proper districts. Lots of breakdowns on the Rock lately. 408 and 410 had HEP problems. 410 is still in the shop. 408 is back running. 412 died on train 409 on Monday with air problems. It has been repaired and is also back running. 407 had air compressor problems on tra...

Good eye! 179 was leant to the MILW for a photo shoot in Elgin. 107 was leant to the Rock to make up for the loss of 179. LOTS of mechnical problems on the Rock lately. 203, 206, and 407 have all recently had traction motor problems. 408 is out of service with HEP issues. 212 is in the Rocket House ...

526 [97] is still at KYD. 532 [99] is at 47th. It will be sent to KYD after 97 is done. 530 [98] is still in Altoona.

You are both correct, 417 failed. A computer component called the Actuating Control Unit, or ACU failed. The ACU controls the speed of the prime mover. The failure was completely unrelated to the HEP conversion. In fact, the genset HEP did its job! The stranded passengers had working HEP, there was ...

The F59s will not receive any mechanical upgrades. The class lights (unfortunately) are being removed at KYD. Altoona did all the prep and body work and primed all 3 for paint. The bell was removed from the cab roof in front of the windshield and placed on the frame where it belongs. An oscillating ...

One (526) is at KYD getting painted. Another (532) is scheduled to be delivered to Metra in Blue Island tomorrow. Not sure where the 3rd unit is. They will be numbered METX 97, 98, and 99. They're desperately needed, since the -3C conversion, MP36 overhaul, and F40PHM-3 programs are all happening at...

Still at 47th.

They robbed a lot of parts off of it to use on other engines while it was in storage so it'll take longer for 401 to be completed than it'll take all the other units.

Yes, the HVAC in them will work as long as some type of 480V is provided be it from shore power, the locomotive itself, or a trailing locomotive. The -3S has a very similar panel to the -3C. The -3S has Train HEP On and Off buttons, as well as an Idle/Run switch. We are required by rule to ALWAYS ke...
