Photo of the 9 loads west NHV 669 mentioned Monday, 7/31/23.
The 316 sounded good as it worked uphill past the Freeport station.
It was followed just under an hour later by Amtrak. Not a bad day’s catch.

The Sea Land well cars have been owned by CSX for a few decades now (early '90s perhaps) and by NYS&W before CSX. Sea Land was purchase by CSX in 1986. I think these Gunderson well cars were built in the mid-80s. They are survivors! Somewhere I have a photo of the 1st doublestack test set in on...

I once heard 100 carloads per mile per year to be viable. Does anyone know if that figure is still relevant? How many miles from end of serviceable track to the mill?

So I took a ride to Farleys today. Lots of company trucks parked around the crossing. Crews must’ve been working farther down the line. Could see where runoff came off the road on the uphill side of the crossing & covered the crossing & immediate area in debris. The railhead had obvious crus...

So, am I correct in understanding the mudslide was just east of Farleys & they continued 7 miles east from there? That would put them just about in Orange, no? Through a few switches in Erving? Lucky there wasn’t much damage!

Not exactly E. Deerfield, but noticed what appeared to be 22k tied down in Buckland this evening around 5:30. With all the flooding being reporting the towns of Orange & Millers Falls, was wondering if Pan Am was experiencing any flood related issues? Has any heard any reports?

I just got a heads up that Rails & Ports is reporting a landslide at the west portal. At least 8” of debris including mud & stone over the rail. At this point, traffic delayed til late tonight. Here’s a link to the R&P home page. Story is about halfway down on the right... https://railsa...

According to the caption in the photo below (credit Greg Grice), the Vermonter has been further truncated to Penn Station.

Should be interesting to hear a Jacksonville dispatcher giving 23k authority?!

Seriously though, this isn’t good news for the PanAm front office workers, dispatch & others. Hope they land on their feet when the dust settles.

It’ll sure be interesting to see how this all plays out.
