Nice video! I wonder how much of it was shot by the drone they were flying over the bridge during some of the construction?

There was a very intense storm with a short period of very strong winds and driving rain that went through that area last night. Some thunder and lightening with it too. I can only imagine that it could have set their timetable back. Early this afternoon we went to see if we could drive under the br...

A brief shower hit the area as we were up on the pedestrian overpass at the Carle Place station late afternoon yesterday. There was still plenty of activity, including a crane moving slabs with track onto the new bridge. We noticed a convoy approaching on the tracks from the east. It was ballast tru...

I remember a tiny spur that served (actually served!) the lumber yard that pre-dated Jamaica Ash. And someone else remembers a spur that served (Hicks') coal yard where the Bristal is now located (west of Post Avenue/south of the tracks.)

I thought about going, but, from Hicksville, Westbury, or Mineola one has to go to Jamaica and make a long trip really long! And I didn't want to take a chance by driving to Babylon or one of the stations the train stops at and not being able to park!

LOL. Cabin fever? (LI and NY metro area seems to be in an endless stretch of cool, dreary weather.) Thanks for making me smile!

The suicides don't happen just at stations and crossings. The LIRR has 700 miles of track.

They are trying to address it. With grade crossing eliminations. Double-tracking. Third track. East-side access. And the funny thing about the trees--- when the LIRR cuts down trees along the right-of-way they get complaints (and have even been sued.) I don't know what the RR can do about the public...

To be fair, the conditions deteriorated rather rapidly after 4:OOpm on Wednesday, March 7. The snow was extremely wet and heavy. (The branches in my yard were weighted down further than I had ever seen them.) There were quite a few power outages across the Island. I can imagine that a lot of trees c...

BlendedBreak, surely you didn't really mean to say that managers with experience in the craft learn "how to cut corners when it comes to operational integrity" Anyone I know who works for a railroad (and I know a few) seems to know that it is a dangerous job (and they try really hard to NO...

My Dad was furious about my carelessness with electricity at the toaster --- but I saw him cry that day. He was a lineman for Con Ed.
