Re: SEPTA Rebuilding for the Future Updates

If you live in and around West Chester, especially on the north side of town, you are better off going to either Exton or even Malvern. Last year, I made a daytrip to ride the West Chester Railroad and I took an Amtrak Keystone to and from Exton and then Ubered from that station to Downtown West Che...

Re: Railfanning in and around Quincy

I might try to go to that footbridge near Billings Ave one afternoon. Looking at my aerial maps, it looks like it’s better to photograph there in the afternoon as in the morning, there are several very tall trees on the east side of the tracks. When I’m in Quincy, I’ll also want to shoot from Quincy...

Railfanning in and around Quincy

Hello All, I’m going to be in Boston from 9/26 to 10/1/19. I’m going to be staying in Quincy at the Howard Johnson’s. Where are the best spots in Quincy to photograph both the Red Line and commuter rail? I am interested in not only going to the stations but photographing from the overpasses and near...

Re: New Orange and Red Line Car Acquisition Process

Thanks. I'll be in Boston from 9/26 to 10/1. I'll be riding the Orange Line a few times when I am there.

Re: Laguardia-LGA: Airtrain or Astoria Line N, Q Train Extension

There is no need to have an Airtrain route from Manhattan to LGA. Probably the best solution would be is to just have Airtrain stay in Queens and run it between the two airports. That would not only be good for people who are traveling to JFK or LGA, but it could also open up for new travel options ...

Re: New Orange and Red Line Car Acquisition Process

I'm going to be in Boston in a few weeks and would love to ride one of the brand new Orange Line trains. When is the new set expected to enter revenue service?

Re: SEPTA Rebuilding for the Future Updates

Wow, I just saw that the name Wawa Station is going to be changed to Middletown. Maybe they should keep Wawa in the station name but say Middletown-Wawa. Being that Middletown is huge, that will help people know where the station is by saying Wawa in the name. We don't want to confuse the future Mid...

Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

Yes, Haverhill is a great town with lots of shops and restaurants near the station. I went there once in 2009. That railroad bridge makes for very nice shots, especially in the afternoon. It looks like if I do make it to Lawrence and this doesn't have much to do with trains, I would visit the Lawren...

Re: SEPTA Rebuilding for the Future Updates

Septa Regional Rail will never serve West Chester anymore. The right of way, presently used by the West Chester Railroad, is very twisty, making it not viable at all for quick daily rail service. On the other hand, West Chester Railroad is looking at running some trips to connect to Septa trains at ...

Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

I live in New Jersey very close to NYC and having ridden the three area commuter railroads over and over, the frequencies are very good. In Metro North land, if you are traveling from GCT to Poughkeepsie on weekends , you often don’t have to wait for more than an hour between trains and during certa...

Re: Expanding Virginia's Passenger Rail

If it takes running a state sponsored thruway bus service from anywhere in Western VA across the state to Richmond and even the Hampton Roads, than that’s what would be the best choice. I know that there is already Thruway bus service at Charlottesville that runs to and from the Richmond stations, a...

Re: Amtrak Downeaster Discussion Thread

The Albany, NY Station, despite it being on the wrong side of the river in Rensellaer, is still very close to Downtown Albany. It's very close to many highways that provide good access to hotels all over the Capitol District. I haven't stayed at a hotel there in a while but often when I travel by Am...

Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

I am going to be in Boston in a few weeks and one of the days that I am there, I am considering using MBTA to get up to visit the Merrimack Valley for the day. I would visit both Lawrence and Haverhill. I don't know too much about the ridership figures of the Haverhill Line, especially for those peo...

Re: Illinois Amtrak Service

Any Amtrak changes on the Lincoln Corridor must be approved by Illinois and UP and whoever owns the Metra Heritage Corridor Route. It would be good though if there was a mid to late morning departure from STL-CHI. This would be great for people who live in and around St. Louis who like to sleep late...

Re: Illinois Amtrak Service

If you aren’t a morning person, especially an evening one, then yes, take the last evening train of the night heading north to Chicago and book a hotel-I’m serious. You will have a full day in Chicago to explore the wonderful attractions in the city. If you are a morning person, and can deal with ge...
