Re: Amtrak NEC Inland, Springfield Shuttle/Regional/Greenfield Route

I don't know about you, but I, for one, would not feel safe riding a DMU at 110 mph, the current speed limit on portions of the Hartford line in Connecticut. The 2 car shuttle trains hit that speed every time since the 2nd track was opened a bit more than a year ago. The 8 car trains 141 & 148 don'...

Second, is there a connection between the Lake shore line and the Red Line?

Re: Lake Shore Limited

I just rode the lake shore limited to go to Columbus Ohio. It’s a good train. 2 things, I am shocked they don’t offer a thruway at Cleveland for Columbus Ohio, I bought my own greyhound ticket and you get there at 8 AM or so. Second, is there a connection between the Lake shore line and the Red Line...

Re: SEPTA NPT card will be "SEPTA Key"?

So I just came back from a trip to DC and you know what DC does which I think would be amazing? DC lets you use cash to reload their cards on the bus! This would be a game changer since you can use your existing bus fleet to let underserved people refil cards with cash on busses which already accept...

Re: Budd Amfleet I Replacement Discussion

Yep, The Sprinters (and I think every mainline NEC electric since 1930 has been dual cab (because at DC they run around, South they have to wye which I can imagine is time consuming). This is why I am assuming they will use the Midwest style/california style cab car (but when I looked up the powerpo...

Re: Budd Amfleet I Replacement Discussion

I doubt that Amtrak is looking for seats that flip. A mix of seats facing one or the other way in each car is likely. We should assume that this order will also include Cab cars and Bistro (sorry, Cafe) cars. There is no typical consist length that applies to the entire network. It varies by line/s...

Re: What will happen to P40/P42 locomotives?

In that thread they already allowed for 110mph max speed because all 4 manufacturers said it couldn't be done.

Re: NICTD New Car RFP

Oddly enough IF the NJT Bilevel Power Cars work out they could also fit since they have traps and high floor, and it would be easy to swap out AC control modules for a 1500VDC control module.

Re: NICTD New Car RFP

ODDLy enough the M9s fits perfectly for this since you would just need the DC components, so it would be a M7 with the M9 pantograph

Re: MLV EMU Procurement

This is interesting. If it is a single self propelled vehicle, then it will likely be a cross between an ALP46 and an MLV car. One could likely take the scaled down guts of an ALP46 (transformer, control hardware and such) and stuff them in the lower level of an MLV car, plus of course change of th...

Re: Bombardier to bid on New Jersey rail contract: sources

I Happen to come across some information regarding this. In the information i read it mentioned a option for 250 cars "INTENDED" for SEPTA. This was news to me because they ofcourse have not mentioned anything. So i am very curious to see how this will play out. A part of me thinks SEPTA will exerc...

I am surprised but I suspect not nearly as astonished as someone such as yourself who saw Amtrak takeover service from his own road. Hope the trip is rewarding. I would note additionally that Brightline/Virgin is now claiming they will build their own Rights of Way some of their future proposed ser...

Re: SEPTA NPT card will be "SEPTA Key"?

I feel like if they had say an app with NFC which both iOS and Android support via Apple Pay and Android Pay/Samsung Pay it wouldn't be bad as most modern phones support NFC (and I mean 4 year old iPhone SEs do and the S7 does), which means it would be great to say make a virtual Key card that you c...
