Also means they don't tread on Cross Street, a big bone of contention among locals. I'm reasonably sure D&RR management would have taken that into consideration.
2 cars for woodhaven, 2 engines, thru Farmingdale @ 0915, 952 leading, 1888 trailing.
I notice they are putting up the new catenary structure (supports) for the southern approach to the new Raritan River bridge.
No sense in getting a new bridge unless they're going to raise it. Can't lower the road; it's already the lowest spot under the bridge. If they are putting in all that effort, might as well widen the road too, it's really tight, maybe 16-18 ft, especially because of the sharp turn directly adjacent....
My guess is they will eventually get around to replacing the Wemrock rd. bridge, raising it 3 feet or so since the clearance is only 9'10", and widening the road a good 5 feet or so, raising the track on each side going back maybe 500 feet. A significant amount of work. Red Bank - Farmingdale w...
As a guess based on the cost of the work done on the southern / Freehold, $1-$2M per track mile, depending if they have to clear down to and re-stabilize the roadbed. Would need the promise of a significant amount of traffic.

It's crazy how we've gone from steam engines and long lines of cars to just a few diesels and a train that half the time isn't even 10 cars long now.

That station in Farmingdale burned in 1912 and was replaced with a smaller one at the diamond .
Lots more pictures in the facebook group. Worth browsing if you have a facebook account. Don't think you need to be a group member to browse them.
Speculation is always good for the mind, unless one pins their hopes on it.
If they were to reactivate the line from Farmingdale east, they would not need to enter Allaire or even cross 195. The old gravel pits behind Wall stadium are only a half mile from the old ROW.
Not that they would do that.
Because now is the time to do it. If you did it before October 2023 , customers would have been cut off. Makes sense. C&D gets grant, rebuilds Freehold-Farmingdale. Bridge gets worked on, and Prestone, Builders General and Reed and Perrine still have service. Also means another reason to delay ...
IIRC the bridge just north of Lakewood (just south of Squankum rd) was in the grant for repairs.
Knew about Wemrock; it was the "few weeks ago" that threw me. Sounded like a different bridge. I suspect they will want to both raise and widen it, hence the delay, it's hallowed ground. As for the grant(s) one member got copies from the state and has graciously passed them on. Unfortunate...
