Re: Lowell Line - Winchester, Woburn, Wilmington Spottings

I've read on a Pan Am Facebook page that these bridge girders are to be used for the Green Line Extension project.
Definitely looks like it. The girders were in place on the bridge site this morning. Very cool progress.

Re: Lowell Line - Winchester, Woburn, Wilmington Spottings

Who is this bridge for? According to this: https://www.ctps.org/data/calendar/pdfs/2019/MPO_0221_Draft_FFYs20-24_TIP_LRTP_New_Boston_Street_Presentation_Handout.pdf The bridge provides alternative, parallel routes for traffic going to either I-93 or I-95, better access to Anderson/Woburn, and can h...

Re: Medford Branch "Dead or Alive?"

That was my question as well. I get the OL needs to have a tunnel unless the Medford Branch completely goes away. With the branch, you need a turnout to access either the bypass or the branch itself. There's only one track, so it's not like you'd be fouling another track either way.

Re: North-South Rail Link Discussion

I give up, Orange Line is a great N-S rail link. Trip planner says 8:30AM... As a daily northside CR rider that transfers to the Orange Line for a trip to Back Bay, you missed an important point. OL is a find N-S rail link... at certain times of the day . At least a couple times a week I see some p...

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

A bit off topic, a stellar 4th of July weekend for North Conway and Mt. Washington Valley businesses. I'll help make it on topic. My family and I took the Firecracker Express from Conway to N. Conway to enjoy the festivities. It beat driving and parking by a long shot and appeared to be a popular o...

Re: Grand Junction Branch (The North/South Side Connection)

Anyone remember this? https://boston.cbslocal.com/2011/07/23/ ... in-saugus/

This obviously wasn't inbound ethanol, but I'm more confident about RR handling than trucks plus local drivers sharing roads with it.

Re: 2019 Commuter Rail Delay Thread

Not a delay per se, but this is the first time I've seen this happen. On last night's (July 8) 5:50pm Lowell departure, it looked like the train was full and a couple dozen people were left on the platform. Consist appeared to be a standard 5 car (4 singles, one double) set and I didn't see any clos...

Most likely the Corridor Clipper track geometry car.
Yup. It was in the middle of a consist on track 10 this morning (~7:30am) at North Station.

Re: Amtrak Downeaster Discussion Thread

The drive time from Wakefield to Haverhill is probably comparable to the drive from Wakefield to Woburn
That may be true, but I live in Winchester and would have to basically drive by Anderson to get to Haverhill. Oh well, progress comes with a price.

Re: Amtrak Downeaster Discussion Thread

I just caught the Downeaster passing through Wakefield due to the (Green Line construction, I assume) diversion. Any idea the effect the loss of Woburn as a stop is having on weekend ridership? Kind of an annoying change. Our family tradition for Father's Day for the last several years has been a da...

Re: New Hampshire Commuter Rail Discussion

Property tax is through the towns only. The state gets money from the 9% meal tax, gas tax (whatever it currently is), highway tolls, and all citations outside of parking tickets and local ordinances are paid to the state (traffic violations, DOT inspections, etc.). Good point, though I do believe ...

Re: New Hampshire Commuter Rail Discussion

The north isn't paying for the south as it is because they're not paying for themselves. If the south wants commuter rail, we're going to be the ones paying for it. I'd go so far as to say that northern towns should hope for this. Better connections to jobs in MA would increase the value of propert...

Btw, has anyone seen a similar article published in the Liconia rag? I can't find it and I won't be surprised if they haven't and don't... they're pro trail. Re: North-South Rail Link Discussion

Eastern Route to inner Fitchburg line would make sense if there are new stations created along the inner Fitchburg. Back around 2001-2002 or so, I did a reverse commute from Beacon Hill to Waltham via CR. There was a pretty solid contingent of commuters that came in from the Newburyport/Rockport li...

Re: Green Line Expansion Beyond Lechmere

Remind me, is there enough ROW in most places on the Lexington Branch to accommodate double-track + busy bikeway + safety wall in between? Agree that there's not nearly enough room and I can't imagine the fits that would be pitched by abutters AND trail users. Probably the only way to get the exten...
