Re: Amtrak plans train service to New York State Fair

Yeah, the Timonium Fairgrounds can be reached by rail (it's standard grade and they do run some freight on it north of Penn Station Baltimore) but there's no siding/etc for parking a private consist.

So Vermont, South Carolina, North Carolina maybe, West Springfield, and Illinois. Hmmm...

Re: Train To The Plane

Washington DC is dead simple to DCA: Blue or Yellow, transfer at either Rosslyn, Metro Center, L’Enfant or Gallery Place/Chinatown depending on what part of town you come from. -IAD is harder: Silver Line to Wiehle-Reston East and a bus from there, until the line officially opens. There’s a direct ...

Re: Amtrak plans train service to New York State Fair

Can’t quite get to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds either, though you’re within a mile of the old St. Paul Midway Station that does still host private cars. NJ State Fair (in the Meadowlands last week of June/early July, not related to the other state fair in Sussex County/Augusta) is right on the ...

Re: Amtrak plans train service to New York State Fair

Earlier this summer I was contacted by a prospective charter client who wanted to take a group from NYP to the state fair, park the private car (MOUNT VERNON) at/near the fairgrounds, use it as their hotel overnight and return to NYP after a second day at the fair. I had to tell them that this trip...

Capitol Limited 30 (28) is terminated at Martinsburg due to a freight derailment between Duffields and Harpers Ferry in West Virginia, per Amtrak Alerts. http://wvmetronews.com/2019/08/29/crews-responding-to-jefferson-county-train-derailment-commuter-rail-impacted/ Edit update from Amtrak Alerts: Up...

*=years ago we had a book on how to speak like a Pittsburgher. "Sahside," "Dahntahn," "Gyant Iggle," "worsh yer hands," "yinz," "slippy," "go and redd up," etc.
I have a friend in nearby Greensburg that can confirm the book is still accurate. :3

Re: All things Pennsylvanian AND Keystone West

I wonder if the NS negotiating position on increasing passenger service to Pittsburgh is influenced by the current disagreement between NS and Pittsburgh re: raising vertical Northside road bridge clearances to permit the operation of double stack trains? Perhaps NS seeks a quid pro quo... https://...

Re: Station Developments

La Plata, MO's ADA platform upgrades have been completed. It took a long time with weather delays and limited work hours (right next to Main 1 of the Transcon). One glitch: the west and central platforms were not extended as far as the east platform. BNSF's contractor built to print but not before ...

Re: Congressional Restrictions on CRRC Transit Cars?

For a while the story around DC (reinforced by at least one Post story and a few paid canvassers at Capitol South Metro if not elsewhere) was that the proposed WMATA 8000 series cars would literally be listening devices. It’s the sort of thing that sounds really threatening at first, until you real...

Re: Expanded DC/Baltimore Commuter Rail Proposals

I'm a simple man, all I want is a Camden Line train back to DC following the end of an O's game and gameday service on weekends. Yeah, I remember when they came about. Problem was CSX was charging a premium for it, and the Federal Transit Admin said MARC/MTA couldn't pass the cost along for such a ...

Re: Congressional Restrictions on CRRC Transit Cars?

The big answer to that is revolves around the control circuitry. Going extreme paranoia here for an exercise, we need to ask a few questions. The big one is: are there any chip fabbers with factories in the US? Yes. There are. Microchip, Intel, Apple, TowerJazz, Maxim, Micron, GlobalFoundries, IM Fl...
