Amazon is officially coming to the DC area.

Let's talk about it.

I still don't see these wrapped cars very often. Saw two last week at Stadium-Armory.

When they are expected to complete wrapping all the cars?

Interesting tidbit from the replies in Twitter: @railtransitops: The noise issue was fixed with a redesign of the wheel angle in relation to the rails. ~RB There's more in the report that came from. The 7ks were delivered with a wheel flange angle of 63 degrees; Metro's standard is 70. They've been...

WMATA 6000 Series Rail Car Legacy

With the 6000 series cars going through so many changes past, present and future, I figured they might as well have their own thread. I don't think any other series of WMATA cars have gone through so many changes over such a long period of time. Past and Present: *Carpet Removal *Stainless steel gra...

The usual incompetence from WMATA workers.

Of course the union makes it so you can't fire these losers so expect this kind of thing to continue.

Rode in car 7525 on the Green line a few days ago. Still had the new car smell too.

Someone is definitely getting fired. Heads will roll.

6k's seem to be almost exclusively on the Green line lately.

Looks like I was right about the USB ports.

To those who argued with me.. what do you have to say now?

Seems silly to plan the order based on today's ridership though. There is nothing more stupid than believing today's situation will last forever. Especially with all the growth in the DMV.

So what is the math? Are you building four six car trains instead of three eight car trains? Or are you changing the capacity of the line by running four six car trains instead of two eight car trains? Why do you need exact math? There are less trains. That means less everything else (operators to ...

The additional operators I will agree with. Doubling the number of trains by splitting them from eight to four cars would require more operators. But how does splitting the train change mileage or wear and tear? The cars would travel the same distance when in an 8 car train as they would in a 4 car...

Running longer trains less frequently is actually a pretty smart move.

Less train operators to pay.

Less mileage on rail cars.

Less wear and tear on the tracks.

I don't get your extreme over-the-top pessimism with WMATA. Gee, maybe the decades of mismanagement, fraud, laziness, and negligence have something to do with it?? Let me ask you this: Which transit system in the United States of equal or greater size and ridership is doing a significantly better j...

We are well past car #7500.

The countdown to #7600 has officially started.

And when the same useless slugs fail to maintain the high tech new stuff, it will also fail and people will also die. Metro will blame lack of funding for spending all their funding on PR instead of maintenance. Jackie Jeter will blame all white people withing a 50 mile radius. The employees will b...
