Funny thing is, I remember a time when the RMNE did run a train out of Waterbury; not from Waterbury station, but from the industrial area north of downtown. That trip went up to Thomaston Dam, and then returned. Nevermind, I just checked, and it did leave from the area behind Fascia's Chocolates. A...

There used to be a facility in Waterbury, CT that incinerated contaminated soils like that (Phoenix Soils).

PeterPan bustitutions have been a regular site on the Waterbury line the past several years when that line has seen prolonged closures for trackwork and signalling upgrades, so its nothing new for MN/CTDOT.

Presumably the route would look like one of these. Not much flatter than the SDA Im afraid, still pushing 2% grades. Ironically, the routes converge on a town in the mountains called... Lazaro Cardenas. Weird.

Despite the name, the Hartford Yard Goats stadium is a couple blocks away from the tracks and train yard north of downtown, too far to see anything directly from the stadium.

Connecticut's trash shipping needs are only going to grow in the future. The closing date for the MIRA incinerator has been pushed out to next July, but is reportedly in such poor condition that it could fail at any time. https://www.ctpublic.org/news/2022-04-22/26-connecticut-towns-exiting-mira-tra...

At this point the SDA through Carrizo Gorge probably qualifies.

Waterbury is gearing up to convert one of the old factory sites along the Mad River and the rail line. The site is technically across the river from the ROW, but might allow a better view of some currently inaccessible parts. https://wdconline.org/2022/07/21/6-3m-park-set-to-begin-construction-in-wa...

Poor Charlie!

Glad you like the pictures, Shepaug. They're just from my phone camera which is 3.6mp. I hear you about the Kodaks. My first digital camera was this nice simple 3mp Kodak. Not very adjustable, but it still made some nice photos. The pictures I took were of the south/western portal of the tunnel, and...

A homeless person? An agent of the defunct TIMEXPO museum across the highway?) A view of the tunnel entrance from ...
