Hello. I am the one who responds to the questions that come in to the RCT&HS website. Your best bet is to see the passenger equipment information compiled by John Hall at the Reading Modeler website: http://www.readingmodeler.info/index.php/component/content/article/97-rolling-stock-reference-fi...

This was the James Cute coal yard. Around 1975 Railroad Model Craftsman did a feature on how to model coal yards, and they had a photo of this facility, which appeared to still be active at that time.

Hello! One day in the Fall of 1978 I saw several bi-level commuter coaches headed westward out of Philadelphia on a Conrail freight. They may have been lettered for Burlington Northern--I don't remember. I believed they were new cars headed from Budd to Chicago. Is anyone familiar with these cars? W...

To which railroad did this bridge belong before Conrail?

At one time PTC (and I assume its predecessor PRT) had "emergency car houses" around the city where overhead wire crews were stationed. Think of a fire house without hoses. I know there was one near Front and Erie and another one on 13th Street at Ridge Avenue. At some point, as trolleys b...

You are correct about Holmesburg station. It was around where Cottage/Walker Street would have crossed the railroad. I confirmed that about ten years ago in an e-mail exchange with an engineer from the USGS (the topo map people). Also at that location, running along Welsh Road was the Frost(?) Lumbe...

In 1975 I saw a Baldwin switcher heading down the branch toward Holmesburg Junction. It still said "PENNSYLVANIA" on the side. Never saw another active Baldwin on Penn Central or Conrail after that.

Hello, all. I did not see this topic in older posts so I apologize if it's already been covered. One of the distinguishing features of the S12 is the asymmetrical front grille--it is subdivided to allow what looks like an access hatch on the bottom (http://yardlimit.railfan.net/baldwindiesels/sms/sm...

Here is a screen shot of a 1920 map from historicmapworks.com . After the Frankford El opened, the line was cut back. In the 1970's it ended in the Frankford Grocery warehouse. I do remember the Frankford News Gleaner reporting twice that boxcars ran past the end of track and through the wall. I wis...
