Why not leave the Portland station where it is? For one, there's nowhere on the main line that they could put a station that will be much closer to anything of interest. For another, the current station has lots of parking. And for the bulk of Downeaster passengers who travel between Portland and po...

As I have reported previously sometime in late July to early August Line 2 from Penn will be OOS as part of this upgrade. It will be out for approx. 18 months. As a direct result Empire service will be cut by at least 2 round trips a day if not more. Trains will be push pull as there will be no eas...

And although South Station was a union terminal each of the three maintained their own storage and maintenance facilities (at least I think they didn’t share) until the “rationalizations” of their infrastructure. Now the only stuff left is remnant If memory serves, the B&A yard was where the Pr...

Not all of it. And through a land swap with the Pike the plan for West Station includes layover tracks at Beacon Park. I thought West Station was going to be built by Harvard on its land, beginning in 2040. By the way, does anyone know what all those strange gray boxes sitting on flat cars are? The...

The B&A completed their grade separation, station replacement construction, purchase of the Highland Branch & connection with their main line, purchase of the Grand Junction, balked on requirement to grade separate the Grand Junction. They did in fact electrify their short Lower Falls Branc...

There are lots of state employees who commute to Augusta from points south (Brunswick, Freeport, Portland). Currently, they bring their cars and fight over parking spaces at the State House.

Part of the long abandoned Dedham Branch has been sold to a developer who is going to build houses on it.

I did see a sign at South Station the other day saying Keolis is hiring conductors.

The commuter rail *is* private industry. Commuter rail workers don't work for the MBTA, but for Keolis, a private company. It's up to them to exercise their collective bargaining rights.

Didn't The Georgian and its sister trains run to Chicago, not Memphis?

And isn't the line from Atlanta to Chattanooga (ex-Western & Atlantic) owned by the State of Georgia? Or do I misremember? I'm sure if they threw enough money at CSX an accommodation could be had.

Why do so many people here seem obsessed with how people dress?

From Amtrak's point of view, I don't thnk parlor cars would pay for themselves.

I went to North Station to meet someone, got through the fare gates using a weekend pass, but when I tried to get out it told me the pass was invalid. I ended up following someone else out.

Why would any new service to Portsmouth not go via the Western route as far as Rockingham Junction and then via the Portsmouth Branch? That track is all in place.

The "Simply Railway" guy on Youtube -- I think his name is Thibault -- seems to like Amtrak seats a lot. He's not so happy with some of the seats on European trains.

The Downeaster has been that way pretty much as long as I've known it. Half the seats in each coach face forward; the other half face backward. Only in the business class section of the cafe car have I ever seen seats be turned.
