Someone brought up the fear of battery buses catching fire. According to a brief weg search It appears MBTA buses have already caught fire from time to time due to one issue or another, so what 's the difference?. :-) If the T aims to eventually replace all buses with battery power, then what's the ...

I went by it just now and was surprised to find it just sitting there. I was expecting to find it fully in place and track ballasted. I thought they closed the road down to finish the job. I saw quite a bit of the work done for the Guild St bridge in Norwood a few years ago. That was fun to watch, b...

They appear to be working on the bridge this weekend. Route 135 in Wellesley is closed up to the Natick line. Same for Bacon St.

The Intervale Rd bride in Weston also has been worked on. I've been getting pictures of that one the past couple of weeks.

Just think...with a bunch of switchbacks, you could work your way UP, level by level. :-D I always thought it was amusing that whoever "named" Z-scale were probably thinking: "well, these are clearly the smallest model trains that will ever exist!! so we might as well just go to the e...

I saw Northlandz in 1998, and even met the guy who started it all. He was pictured in the Smithsonian magazine article on toy/model trains from 1988, and his home layout looks a lot like Northlandz, with lots of bridges and chaotic mountainous scenery. While my parents and I were impressed with the ...

I believe this is the same location, pictures taken in 1997.

I recall being somewhat amused by the proximity of trees to the tracks.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Does this BAR reefer in New Hampshire still stand? I photographed it a good decade ago somewhere along the road to Concord, NH. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7711/17408149246_a3442c08cc_c.jpg Another view of this scene can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brian_w_austin/16813887963/in/a...

Of the times I've ridden on a sleeper ('80s-'90s) the only problem I had was I kept wanting to watch the scenery roll by at night, along with the activities at stations. Kind of hard to sleep when I was rolling up the shade from time to time. :-)

Does this count as "rare mileage" ? :-) I wonder where they were headed. Note the Wilbur Theater in the background. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3755/9522983744_5c074e4748_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3685/9520197521_c018e7e480_z.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/brian_w_austin/9...

For what it's worth noting the Thomas the Tank Engine empire is based on the The Railway Series book series by the Rev. W Audrey starting in the '50s, later taken up by his son Christopher. I mention this because it may be worthwhile to look up used copies of the old books, and that the old book ser...

Back in my college days I happened upon this rather odd sight. I think they were scrapping the RDCs, but I'm not entirely sure. Would any of you happen to have info? (Scan quality of the original B&W 35mm negative is poor due improper film processing causing the grain to "reticulate".)...
