The southbound freight struck an auto in South Royalton Wednesday morning Jan. 31. The 92-year-old woman was from Massachusetts, and had no known reason for being in South Royalton. The incident is still under investigation by Vermont State Police. www.vnews.com has what little inf there is.

FP45, SDP40/45, SDP40F and F40C models were all C-C. MILW's SDL39s were C-C as well, despite the lightweight truck design. Santa Fe converted one of the 1936 Super Chief B-B boxcabs by adding an idler axle to each truck, resulting in a 1B-1B configuration. From what I remember, the trucks were repla...

PCC 3295 still belongs to the T. Type 5 5734 belongs to Seashore, but has not been in Maine since leased to the T in 1979. Changes in Green Line overhead wire configuration and the closure of the Watertown car house made operation of 5734 nearly impossible on T trackage, since a type 5 roof does not...

All of the stops were at the locations of B&M stations, since the platforms were still in place. Nashua's was at Hollis Street, near the junction with the Bennington Branch and the former Worcester Nashua & Portland. Manchester's was just north of Granite Street. The station in Concord was a...

T Commuter rail had several washouts and bank erosion issues. Looks like about a 30-35-foot double track washout made the national news.

It's worth noting that three of the five Executive Council districts, and about 65% of the legislative seats, will not receive any direct benefit from commuter rail service to Boston. The most direct transit services (Boston Express, Concord Coach) are privately operated, with the State providing on...

I was in San Diego for a family event, scheduled to fly out on Sunday the 20th. A cancelled flight with no open space to rebook at SAN meant seeking options - specifically LAX. Caught train 777 at 12:01 PM. The train was packed, with folks off of the cancelled 10:01AM train, and others who had hoped...

All of the Vermont Railway System's lines, including the GMRC, are owned by the State of Vermont. VTRANS has lots of places to get fill.

Some tie replacement underway on the NECR south of White River Jct. Tie bundles dropped over the last couple of weeks have had their contents distributed. The Vermonter is running as a bus north of New Haven until Monday 7/31 to allow for this work and work by Amtrak on its New Haven Line.

Amtrak Vermonter 54 truncated at New Haven today due to more rainfall in Vermont and Massachusetts. 57 cancelled before it left St. Albans. Bus substitution only south of White River Jct.

So much for Amtrak's tracking. Looks like 56 was truncated at New Haven like yesterday. Earlier it showed expected "on time" arrivals at some Vermont points for today.

Amtrak's tracker shows Vermonter 56 operating normally northbound, with no service alerts. There was no train in St. Albans this morning to make up the southbound Vermonter, so it will most likely begin with tomorrow's train. The Ethan Allen is only operating between New York and Albany due to "...

By the time the phase IV scheme came around the heritage coaches had been replaced by Amfleet II cars to some extent, but they could be found on eastern long-haul trains well into the 1990s. The last stand for the heritage coaches was the Adirondack. Many of the cars were converted into center-door ...
