Re: Some images from swiss private railways

Wonderful! This area is very much on my desire-to-visit list.

The Landwasser is very impressive.

Re: G&W to sell stake in Australian operations

The main issue is that Brookfield has substantial investments in other Australian railway elements, including ownership of much of the Western Australia network. If there weren't potential competition concerns I doubt G&WA would be sold off. It will be interesting to see if the brand will be changed...

Clearly two feet shorter than the SD40 behind it, too!

The track area looks surprisingly clean.

Re: All Things Cascades incl Vancouver

I think a stop in Blaine would be beneficial, too, but not for commuting. There are a bunch of US citizens/residents that work in Canada, but usually in the areas surrounding the border. Commuting into the city itself every day would be a nightmare regardless of mode. Even if Amtrak's schedule worke...

Re: All Things Cascades incl Vancouver

The Blaine station still exists, but it's pretty close to the border and is a boarded up mess at the moment.

Considering that the southbounds tend to be delayed at the border, having the station right there might be useful...

539 is a more conventional-looking EMD G series. Looks nice.

Re: Cascade Wreck 18 December 17

Guys, the Jefferson set has been back in service... for months.

The Talgo 6s were due to be replaced about 2025. WASDOT saying they'll be "removed from service as soon as possible" whatever that means. Will be at least Memorial Day.

Re: Cascade Wreck 18 December 17

511 also operates way too late for the commuter traffic its predecessor saw before the grand schedule change of a few years ago. Those people now have a bus...

Re: "Red Points" on CP freight

Canadian crews are entitled to microwaves, hot plates and fridges by union agreement. Not all of these amenities are included in foreign power. Theoretically, crews are allowed to switch a different unit onto the head end if that's the case. The blue units are CEFX AC4400CWs and have been on lease t...

Re: All Things Cascades incl Vancouver

White Rock is single track, but that's not the issue. The tracks run along the beach right through the center of town, so there's lots of grade crossings, etc. BNSF keeps speeds to 25 to keep the neighbors happy. There are also some tight curves and unstable ground slightly north of the city.

Re: All Things Cascades incl Vancouver

Unfortunately, the trail people have gotten hold of that, and aren't going to give it back. I'd love to see it rebuilt, but the main slow area is from New Westminster to Pacific Central. The reroute would only save a little time from the bridge to Braid Junction, which would be offset by the greater...
