BTW, did Massachusett's Congressman the Honorable Richard Neal speak his mind at the hearings to offer any credible reasons why he is opposed to the CSX acquisition? Yes he did. He backed way off on his opposition to the transaction when CSX said they would work with the state on proposed east-west...

I've been watching the proceedings and I think that it's going to get approved.

Thanks for the link to the hearing, interesting stuff.

They may want to use it for future west of Springfield passenger service or possibly tie into the existing NE quadrant wye track that ties int the Conn. River line for direct service north toward Vermont.

You are right that the state owns the Naugatuck Branch that the Naugy RR runs on. Pan Am does switch the spur to Albert Bros. from the Highland Junction switch. Back in the New Haven & Penn Central days that spur was actually part of the Watertown branch that continued on through Oakville to Wat...

And what amount of traffic would be needed to have NS seriously consider buying out CSX's half of PAS? Would CXS sell its half for bargain prices to get NS's support in its merger and remove the competition issue? That would be great for keeping the competition in NE and I'm sure would be looked at...

I also saw the grain train go by the Palmer cam late this morning on the B&A. The crew issues on PAS and NS out of Mickyville must be really bad. CSX seems to be taking over Pan Am by default even w/out the merger approval yet. This merger can't happen soon enough.

My mom worked as a clerk for the B&M in the Concord NH station during the WWII years. I remember her taking me down there in the mid 50's. It had a large train shed covering the station tracks. It was an impressive looking building for this small kid back in my days. We also took an RDC from Nor...

I've seen CSX hold freights on the B&A numerous times for Amtrak. Case in point, from CP-109 just west of Westfield Center MA. to CP-123 just east of Chester MA. the B&A is single track. On the Chester Station Museum webcam I've seen eastbound freights held on the double track by the station...

Wow, I hope they can get them delivered in a timely fashion. A lot of D-3 trains canned all over the place.

If they propose Springfield to Boston service they would have to redouble track the single track portions of the CSX Boston line. That would be nice to have Amtrak run some inland regionals through Hartford. I would think that CT Dot would be for that. If they wanted to run east-west service all the...

I think Viewliner II diners operated with a crew of 3 pre flex dining - chef, LSA, server. Less sleeping car rooms and tables in the diner so doesn’t need as much as a Superliner diner. When I took my trip out west this summer I took the LSL from NYC to Chicago and came back on it a week later. The...
