I've found steamlocomotive.info has sometimes messed up with their calculations. 18's tractive effort when using the TE formula is something like 23,000. 14's is 24,800.

Beloved no. 18 is set to receive a new firebox to bring her up to FRA safety standards. I believe the work is being contracted out this time instead of being done in-house like her previous 2002-07 rebuild but it will have her out of service for at least 2019. Her 1,472 is being conducted as part of...

Glad you enjoyed the trips! These were in fact very historical as trips have not run to North Java in a very long time. The trackwork you mentioned was to bring the Curriers-North Java line out of "excepted" status (if you don't know what that means, it means that the line is not subject t...

Well, the good news is that she hasn't deteriorated at all over the winter. #14 is still tucked away in her stall in Arcade, awaiting the day where she gets trucked out for a complete restoration. Some things I learned about her restoration: -Strasburg quoted anywhere from $1 million to $8 million a...

The new diesel, tentatively-named "#114", is sitting in 18's bay in the engine house having her ends put back together. It is reported that the A&A has both ends running and she is just getting pieced back together now. Now, as for the number... I have been good friends with Brad Mapes...

I have a few photos of #14 on all angles from when I visited this spring. Will post them if I can find them. Also, was talking with Brad and he made mention of possibly pulling #14 out a few times this year so people could see it. It would be nice if that actually ended up happening so people could ...

Interestingly enough, I came across this YouTube video featuring Arcade #18 in 1992 wearing what sounds to me like a five or six-chime. Would anyone like to elaborate on this? The whistle I have always heard was the current CNR one but this video proves she wore another one at some point... http://w...
